Ask DN: Exporting small PDF file from Illustrator while keeping good image quality

over 5 years ago from , UX Designer

Hi there,

So ive been playing around with this issue for almost a day and it is really getting on my nerves. Basically I need to produce PDF which would be max 6MB.

It will be around 6 pages both with images and vector graphics.

I cant get good quality file not exceeding at least 30MB.

Is there anything in particular I should know when exporting PDF/importing images to Illustrator that could help me avoid this problem?

Tough to say, but you'd likely need to focus on optimizing the rasterized images as they will make up the bulk of the file size when saved.

You can make sure you resave all your images to the appropriate resolution/quality before you place them into your illustrator doc, OR when you save out your pdf, make sure you adjust the settings under the compression tab to downsample your images to the correct resolution. Good luck, its a tricky battle.
