An example of when being different for the sake of being different is effective. To me, at least. The design forces you to listen to the music only. No distractions. For fans of his music, it's the new album so you want to listen to it anyway.

It only works because Kanye is so established already and has a reputation for making statements.

My wife rolled her eyes when she saw this site, but I personally think this is design perfection. For the Kanye haters who hate the site just because it is Kanye please read No UI by Krishna.lol...I wouldn't have clicked on anything anyways so why make a UI.

??? Confused. One Silly picture and some horrible music? Why is this on Designer news? This is one of the worst websites ever. Am I missing something?

You don't need a fancy UI for a single song. Just throw up a picture and play the song automatically. That's design and that's why it's on this site. Sometimes no interface is better than a bunch of crap I don't care about.

So because you don't care about possible concert dates or a discography then that's all that matters? Really? You seem to be as self-centered as Kanye himself.

In terms of User Experience, it's actually the opposite of self-centered. It's user needs. If there is already 20 different websites with Kanye concert dates and discography there is absolutely no user need for it on his site.

Not only that, but I get a scroll in Safari...how hard is it to place an image in the smack center of a page without causing scrollbars to appear. They failed at the simplest possible task.

… yet vapourware sites with some vague mission statement, some crappy stock photography and a 'sign up for beta' form generates just as much interest / discussion.

Whatever this is supposed to be, we are talking about it and that's the point.

Just admit it... you voted because of the song, didn't you?

I find it really hard to like Kanye West, never mind his music.

I like Kanye West. And by the way, I very often follow various celebrities. Their path of success inspires me a lot. But it is important to find truly relevant information. That's why I read blogs and watch YouTube. If you are interested, you can read more here on the best Internet resource that I found recently. I love following the lives of celebrities! They often inspire with their achievements and talent. I love reading news about them, watching their films or listening to music. Sometimes they become real role models. I guess it's just interesting to see how their careers develop and change over time. Celebrities add color to our daily lives, and I'm glad I can follow their successes and creativity.

I'm guessing that this is the start of a campaign to promote something new.

When you are an international music celebrity, you don't need a practical website.

Fans of his work are probably loosing their minds over this.

Experts in UX and Design are probably not the target audience.

If this is design then it's BAD design because it fails to inform or provide any sort of user experience. It doesn't even make it clear that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to interact with on that page. I can't even turn the volume up/down/off without using the browser or OS controls.

At best this is art, and from both an aesthetic and audio standpoint it's BAD at that as well.

I think you've missed the point entirely. I also think you're not Kanye's target audience.

Wait a minute, a dark grey page with one picture and a streaming song is 615KB? What's going on here... oh... over 25 trackers, beacons, other shit.

    HE KNOWS

    HE KNOWS.

But that ASCII art is neat.
