I don't want to come across as acidic or negative. There are many things to praise about this design, not least that advertising is confined to a sidebar (try accessing the UK's Guardian newspaper and enjoy the enormous advertisement banner you get treated to there).
However, I am not really feeling this IBT design.
I suppose for a long time this [sidebar] [main] [sidebar] layout was considered a sort of "Holy Grail", but looking at this, I'm forced to wonder why. It just seems so cluttered, tiring to look at. Maybe the typography is a bit off, but that's probably very subjective even for design talk.
I wonder how many users will naturally tend to begin at the left of the content and make their way across and down.
Of course, that's no reason to abandon the notion of alternative layouts, but only if they are better than the established order.
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="300" />
This is a bit annoying. Isn't this what AJAX is for? Granted, it's not necessary to have AJAX updating content all the time--but if you don't want that, you definitely don't want auto-refreshing content.
Damn that looks good! It's an updated newspaper look, made for the web. I almost forgot that I have real work to do and shouldn't sit on IBT all day, haha!
Scrolling makes some things disappear on scroll (iPad Pro), but those things reappear after a second.
