Zooming performance improvements, especially for fast consecutive zoom actions, or traditional mouse-wheel scrolling

    Zooming

Well, it’s somewhat better than before.

Found this line height bug. This is such a big bummer for me. Better don't update if you don't want all your existing font moved down weirdly.

Ugh! They so need to sort this out. Typography is a constant frustrating and terrible thing. Trying to design a long-form content page is really, really hard in Sketch (no indentation and no top or bottom margins are the major culprits).

Typography was my main concern when deciding to switch from Photoshop. All the text options in Sketch just seem to be ticking time bombs. You work on a file, save it, open it again an all of the sudden some of the text fields are a few px shorter than they where when you last had the file open. Why? Who knows, maybe because it was a Monday...

This happens after every new release. For every bug fixed, two new ones emerge. They are in an endless cycle of fixing bugs, most of which should've been squashed before a version 1.0 release. It's a shame because Sketch has a lot of potential.

That's the real problem of Sketch and Bohemian coding: one step forward, two steps back. If they don't take care this will be end end of Sketch sometime. Because the more "Mainstream" it gets, the less tolerable people will be for bugs. And Photoshop is closing up fast, especially with Project Comet, so what may be unique at Sketch at the moment may be standard in other apps soon. And this really hurts, as Sketch has so much potential and is such a great app, but if they continue like this it won't end well.

When pixel fitting is off, we no longer move layers by 1px increments. When it’s on, we always snap to full pixels

The OS X (El Capitan) spinning beach ball of death appears constantly when moving items. Sketch seems to be having issues working with elements that are not on an artboard. I've seen lag from a couple seconds to minutes including app crashes.

––Update–– I was working from an existing 3.3.3 file. I copied a few artboards into a new 3.4 file and things seem to be working much better. Wondering if there was some corruption happening. Recommend making backups of any legacy files as you can't open 3.4 files in version 3.3.3. Just in case. ––

Same here. Pasting artboards from older files to the new one does not solve the problem - I'm experiencing the same thing.

--- Update: Forgot to mention that I'm experiencing this problem on two different iMac machines - 5k and Late 2013 model. Both on El Capitan.

Has become highly unstable: 3.4 crashed a dozen times or so (since yesterday that is!)... just by using undo. Also styles & symbols just don't sync anymore. Man, wished I had made a copy before jumping into 3.4 .. now I can't use my file anymore with 3.3 ... Please fix this Sketch Devs -- don't make me look forward to Comet as the only one design tool that hopefully will get it right.

Edit: Also with "auto-expand groups" activated (otherwise selected layers won't show on the sidebar), when you delete a layer within a folder, all folders and layers collapse to the uppermost screen and you can start drilling down again. Annoying !

If that was intended behavior, add an option called "auto-collapse" that does that. "Auto-expand" should only expand, not collapse things - especially not within the folder you are just working.

Hey, I'm on Mavericks ( 1.9.5 ). Might be just the file, but honestly, it would suck if I had to recreate the file from scratch only to be sure shared styles to indeed work. Also, in the previous version when undoing a style change within a symbol, the undone would always just apply to the current instance of the symbol, not all symbols. Was that a common bug for others as well ?

The best thing is to reach out to Bohemian Coding I guess. I never experienced this bug tbh. All worked smooth, but I might be wrong here, just can't really remember this bug.

Something is wrong with Layer/Image/9-Slice Image option. My set of symbols for wireframing don't work on 3.4. What if someone have 9-slices in project file? Lost everything? Guys, it's not funny.

Seems great - now please, devote some serious attention to scrolling/zooming. Especially when using views with background blur, my macbook pro tops out at almost 600% CPU usage. There has to be a better way to handle this stuff.

Otherwise - very happy to see the scroll bar and hide icon addressed. That was a constant frustration. :)

I'm having the same issue. I can only select one or more artboards and then nudge them with the keyboard. Can't figure out how to drag artboards with the mouse any more...has anybody else had any success?

      0 points
      • Christian Krammer, over 3 years ago

I told this so often to the team throughout the beta, that it really sucks that you can't move an artboard "the old way"; by selecting it in the Layers List, anymore. They didn't listen and also never told me that you can click on the title of the artboard and move it like this. Strange folks sometimes ...

        0 points
    • Manny Larios, over 3 years ago (edited over 3 years ago )

Contacted @sketchapp on Twitter regarding this issue: you have to select the title of the art board in order to move them around. That also applies if you wanted to replicate an artboard that already contains layers. If an artboard is empty, you can simply select the artboard and click and drag to replicate (an empty artboard). I could swear that wasn't the case in previous versions.

      Hope this helps.

      • Brian ZaikBrian Zaik, over 3 years ago

Hmm...I click the title of the artboard and it highlights in the canvas as well, but then I can't click down and drag with the mouse to move it around. Even if layer interaction is turned off, I can't figure out how to click down and drag to move the board. That worked in past versions.

Drag the name to move the art board was always the case.

        1 point
        • Manny Larios, over 3 years ago

Yes: that was always the case. However, before Sketch 3.4, you could also just select anywhere within the artboard and drag to move around the canvas. It would be interesting to know why the decision was made to change that. Can't we have it both ways? :)

          1 point
          • Abhijeet WankhadeAbhijeet Wankhade, over 3 years ago

You could drag the art board only if it was empty, I'm not on Sketch 3.4 yet so I'm not sure if they have taken that down from it.

            0 points
            • Sabih MirSabih Mir, over 3 years ago

Not true, actually. If you clicked the Artboard name in the left panel, you could then click and drag the entire artboard (contents and all) around and organize your artboards. No longer seems to be the case...

I noticed when I opened my "old" 3.3 document that images that had fills were blacked out. It couldn't show opacity right. Solution was to change blend mode.

Also noticed that all text layers that had jumped down 30-40 pixels, that had lower line-height than font size. Since Sketch can't render line-height correctly.

The "Local sharing" feature is nice in theory, but it puts every dartboard in a single view, in order, starting from your first page to your last. If it used the full screen, I'd be happy enough with it, but it zooms out to fit everything between the time bar and the soft keys. Won't be usable for device previews as is, but may be useful for desktop or other graphic designs that aren't device-dependent.

In the Beta there used to be a download button to download the Sketch file. It looks like they removed it in production. It would have been nice to say, "Hey if you want my latest Sketch file, just go to 192.xxx.xxx"

It would great if there was some way for local sharing to use 2x on a retina screen. I think the local sharing feature could be handy for quickly getting a sense of what a desktop design looks like in-browser, but it looks blurry on a retina screen.

    0 points
    • Nick Woodman, over 3 years ago

Hi Andrew, can you think of any other use cases for Local Sharing? I'm struggling to understand how I can incorporate this into my workflows and what the real use case for this feature is. I agree that previewing desktop and web designs this way could be useful, too bad it doesn't support @2x yet. #mvp ... maybe someday
