"Scrollbar in the layer list no longer obscures the hide/lock icons"
Zooming performance improvements, especially for fast consecutive zoom actions, or traditional mouse-wheel scrolling
Well, it’s somewhat better than before.
The map nerd in me really wants to know what you're working on there!
I seriously just mapped control-q and control-w to zoom in and out because my fingers rest there anyway.
It's definitely way better than before - but still far from ideal. But you can at least zoom now without the need to wait multiple seconds.
Found this line height bug. This is such a big bummer for me. Better don't update if you don't want all your existing font moved down weirdly.
This one bothered me since I switched to sketch. But hey, nothing's perfect! (:
Ugh! They so need to sort this out. Typography is a constant frustrating and terrible thing. Trying to design a long-form content page is really, really hard in Sketch (no indentation and no top or bottom margins are the major culprits).
Typography was my main concern when deciding to switch from Photoshop. All the text options in Sketch just seem to be ticking time bombs. You work on a file, save it, open it again an all of the sudden some of the text fields are a few px shorter than they where when you last had the file open. Why? Who knows, maybe because it was a Monday...
Significantly faster and much more accurate Boolean Operations
Still not there yet.
What the hell is that? :D
Boolean = true/false. So like a switch or something.
Sketch is hogging my Macbook Pro Retina 15inch for real.. The sound of the fans are so loud it's like working in a plane.
Yeah mine is dying as well. I've been trying to love Sketch for 2 years now but it is just not made for the MBPr
Tell me more about that, Bjarke... I'm abou to shift from Adobe suit to Sketch but I use a Macbook Pro. Isn't it a good shift?
It was good! Until this update. Before it was okay/bearable.
I would definitely use it, just wouldn't cancel my Adobe suit just yet
Thanks a mil, guys. Sorry for the delay. :)
same. slow as shit. laggy and unresponsive.
i don't understand it. why don't they test before shipping? obviously this version is not for real work. WTF is going on?
This happens after every new release. For every bug fixed, two new ones emerge. They are in an endless cycle of fixing bugs, most of which should've been squashed before a version 1.0 release. It's a shame because Sketch has a lot of potential.
That's the real problem of Sketch and Bohemian coding: one step forward, two steps back. If they don't take care this will be end end of Sketch sometime. Because the more "Mainstream" it gets, the less tolerable people will be for bugs. And Photoshop is closing up fast, especially with Project Comet, so what may be unique at Sketch at the moment may be standard in other apps soon. And this really hurts, as Sketch has so much potential and is such a great app, but if they continue like this it won't end well.
Wow. Seeing all these responses... That's a lot of stuff within 15 hours of this post being up.
And people complain about Adobe :x
The Share feature is awesome.
Struggling to find the value in this, why would I use local sharing? Design presentations?
The OS X (El Capitan) spinning beach ball of death appears constantly when moving items. Sketch seems to be having issues working with elements that are not on an artboard. I've seen lag from a couple seconds to minutes including app crashes.
––Update–– I was working from an existing 3.3.3 file. I copied a few artboards into a new 3.4 file and things seem to be working much better. Wondering if there was some corruption happening. Recommend making backups of any legacy files as you can't open 3.4 files in version 3.3.3. Just in case. ––
same experience here
I was experiencing this all day at work. I'll have to try creating a new file. Thanks for the tip.
Same here. Pasting artboards from older files to the new one does not solve the problem - I'm experiencing the same thing.
--- Update: Forgot to mention that I'm experiencing this problem on two different iMac machines - 5k and Late 2013 model. Both on El Capitan.
When pixel fitting is off, we no longer move layers by 1px increments. When it’s on, we always snap to full pixels
Something is wrong with Layer/Image/9-Slice Image option. My set of symbols for wireframing don't work on 3.4. What if someone have 9-slices in project file? Lost everything? Guys, it's not funny.
Left - 3.3.3, Right - 3.4
I was told 9-Slice is on the chopping block for the next version so don't hold your breath for a fix.
Has become highly unstable: 3.4 crashed a dozen times or so (since yesterday that is!)... just by using undo. Also styles & symbols just don't sync anymore. Man, wished I had made a copy before jumping into 3.4 .. now I can't use my file anymore with 3.3 ... Please fix this Sketch Devs -- don't make me look forward to Comet as the only one design tool that hopefully will get it right.
Edit: Also with "auto-expand groups" activated (otherwise selected layers won't show on the sidebar), when you delete a layer within a folder, all folders and layers collapse to the uppermost screen and you can start drilling down again. Annoying !
If that was intended behavior, add an option called "auto-collapse" that does that. "Auto-expand" should only expand, not collapse things - especially not within the folder you are just working.
What OS you running ? I've used it all day yesterday on 2 different computers and never crashed. I think you're a bit unlucky here (:
Hey, I'm on Mavericks ( 1.9.5 ). Might be just the file, but honestly, it would suck if I had to recreate the file from scratch only to be sure shared styles to indeed work. Also, in the previous version when undoing a style change within a symbol, the undone would always just apply to the current instance of the symbol, not all symbols. Was that a common bug for others as well ?
The best thing is to reach out to Bohemian Coding I guess. I never experienced this bug tbh. All worked smooth, but I might be wrong here, just can't really remember this bug.
I have the same issues. Opened up a file and after a while I noticed that none of my symbols or styles were syncing anymore. Downloaded the beta instead which solved the issue with the symbols but styles still aren't syncing.
Fill control crashes every time on 5k iMac, regardless of new file or existing. Perfectly fine on macbook pro. Don't upgrade if you are on an iMac!
I will save my celebrations till they fix Sketch Mirror.
That was fixed, too. Works great here :-).
Anyone having issues just trying to move artboards? For some reason, it doesn't want to let me move them...
I'm having the same issue. I can only select one or more artboards and then nudge them with the keyboard. Can't figure out how to drag artboards with the mouse any more...has anybody else had any success?
I told this so often to the team throughout the beta, that it really sucks that you can't move an artboard "the old way"; by selecting it in the Layers List, anymore. They didn't listen and also never told me that you can click on the title of the artboard and move it like this. Strange folks sometimes ...
Contacted @sketchapp on Twitter regarding this issue: you have to select the title of the art board in order to move them around. That also applies if you wanted to replicate an artboard that already contains layers. If an artboard is empty, you can simply select the artboard and click and drag to replicate (an empty artboard). I could swear that wasn't the case in previous versions.
Hope this helps.
Hmm...I click the title of the artboard and it highlights in the canvas as well, but then I can't click down and drag with the mouse to move it around. Even if layer interaction is turned off, I can't figure out how to click down and drag to move the board. That worked in past versions.
Sorry. I guess I should clarify. You want to click the title of the artboard thats on the canvas (located on the upper left corner of the artboard you want to move) and drag.
Good to know. Thanks for clarifying!
Wow! That is so not discoverable. Thanks for the clarification.
Drag the name to move the art board was always the case.
Yes: that was always the case. However, before Sketch 3.4, you could also just select anywhere within the artboard and drag to move around the canvas. It would be interesting to know why the decision was made to change that. Can't we have it both ways? :)
You could drag the art board only if it was empty, I'm not on Sketch 3.4 yet so I'm not sure if they have taken that down from it.
Not true, actually. If you clicked the Artboard name in the left panel, you could then click and drag the entire artboard (contents and all) around and organize your artboards. No longer seems to be the case...
Seems great - now please, devote some serious attention to scrolling/zooming. Especially when using views with background blur, my macbook pro tops out at almost 600% CPU usage. There has to be a better way to handle this stuff.
Otherwise - very happy to see the scroll bar and hide icon addressed. That was a constant frustration. :)
The FB iOS9 UI template is borderline unusable becasue of this. My machine struggles HARD.
I noticed when I opened my "old" 3.3 document that images that had fills were blacked out. It couldn't show opacity right. Solution was to change blend mode.
Also noticed that all text layers that had jumped down 30-40 pixels, that had lower line-height than font size. Since Sketch can't render line-height correctly.
Here is the fill control failing on a 5k iMac. Fails on all uses.
I am really excited about this, what a massive update. Especially the boolean operations improvements.
Also hoping that export bugs have been ironed out, been running into some nasty ones lately.
COntent Generator PLugin no worky in this version just so you all know.
Works for me
I guess I am not using the one you are
Where did you get it? The github version doesn't work for me with the latest sketch update.

After reading all the comments I'm bit skeptical on updating. And then there's that "can't open this file, it has been created with a newer version" thingy.
I'm up to about half a dozen crashes or freeze ups a day now, from about 2 or 3 in 3.3. I'm starting to get frustrated with Sketch in general. It has it's bonuses, but the downs are starting to pile up for me.
Anyone else having trouble with PDF exports?
Yes! This is awful, it exports them in jpg quality or something...
Mmmm nope nope nope, I will keep using Photoshop thanks! Heavy but not buggy as hell.
It would great if there was some way for local sharing to use 2x on a retina screen. I think the local sharing feature could be handy for quickly getting a sense of what a desktop design looks like in-browser, but it looks blurry on a retina screen.
Hi Andrew, can you think of any other use cases for Local Sharing? I'm struggling to understand how I can incorporate this into my workflows and what the real use case for this feature is. I agree that previewing desktop and web designs this way could be useful, too bad it doesn't support @2x yet. #mvp ... maybe someday
Not sure if this is a bug. Deleting anything from an artboard collapses it and any open group folders in that artboard. Seems to be doing it inconsistently
Already reported this to the team in the beta, they didn't care. Also think that this is very strange behaviour.
Is layer drilling down really buggy for anyone else now? I can't select past a certain depth with certain layers.
"You can now create a quick mask for a selected bitmap just by clicking the Mask button in the toolbar"
This is would be so great if it worked on layer groups too.
The "Local sharing" feature is nice in theory, but it puts every dartboard in a single view, in order, starting from your first page to your last. If it used the full screen, I'd be happy enough with it, but it zooms out to fit everything between the time bar and the soft keys. Won't be usable for device previews as is, but may be useful for desktop or other graphic designs that aren't device-dependent.
I'm struggling to find the value in this feature, what is the use case for Local Sharing?
Same. I can't think of any reason to use it. "hey here's the 30 artboards im working on"?
I don't get it.
In the Beta there used to be a download button to download the Sketch file. It looks like they removed it in production. It would have been nice to say, "Hey if you want my latest Sketch file, just go to 192.xxx.xxx"
I was hoping to replace Android Design Preview, since there are ZERO other stable options for previewing devices on an Android phone.
Seems like zooming in/out is really weird for me now. The cursor is completely ignored and it zooms in relation to the center of my monitor when using command + scroll.
When Pixel Fitting preference is on, we’ll always snap to full pixel values
Oh, please work.
Sub-layers of a hidden groups no longer display their selection outline
Nice fix! This always annoyed me.
I wouldn't update yet, symbols don't sync changes anymore...at least on my machine
That shouldn’t be happening! Can you please send that file to email@example.com so we can take a look at it, please?
I have similar problems. Detach from symbol is broken too for some symbols. The only way to get it to work is ungroup, regroup, and create a new symbol.
Any issues with Sketch 3.4 working with El Capitan os x? Wondering if I should update yet to El Capitan.
No issues here.
Not sure if el cap related… I'm having Wacom issues.
Having major move, copy paste issues since the 3.4 update. Seriously wish I didn't upgrade. On OS X El Capitan but not sure if that's the cause.
New way of pasting is by placing elements in the artboard always on top. If you hold down SHIFT when pasting elements, you get the old behaviour.
I can't move layer groups, after copying and pasting and using keyboard to move layer around it toggles the edit layer name function....
OS X El Capitan..
Fill control totally busted on 5k iMac. Impossible to use Sketch 3.4 right now.
Just had some work done and no issues at all for now.
Go for it. My computer is a bit slower than before but I have a 6 year old macbook pro running with an ssd and only 4gb ram. Still faster than any Adobe if I'm honest. Still using Adobe for some stuff tho. (:
