I can't imagine the sheer number of iteration they had before coming up with this UX.

      I can:

PM: "Our Android Wallet thing is a piece of cr*p and nobody is using it."

Graphic Designer: "Oh, have you seen Apple Pay?"

PM: "Yeah, it's awesome. Apple got it right. Let's rip it off."

Graphic Designer: "I am on it."

      3 days later

Graphic Designer: "I did it, just had to put it all on paper cards, add shadows and include our branding."

      PM: "Awesome, let's ship it."

Google Wallet is and has been very simple to use for a while now. In what ways do you consider it a piece of crap?

Let's not pretend that Apple Pay was the first to create something like this, and that Apple didn't heavily use those other apps as inspiration and influence for Apple Pay. There is a difference between using common design patters and "ripping off" your competitors.

Google had Wallet for quite a long time before Apple, and Apple's version looks identical to it. So it's the other way around no?

I'm curious to see how this compare to Wechat Pay or Alipay. Looks really exciting!
