What you do when you get time between the point you ship a product and the time you make changes based on the product use? (don't limit your responses to that scenario alone, I'm asking about any free time you get at your workplace).
Why I read DN of course.
try the new prototyping tool that came out that morning.
Spot on! Same here. It seems like we have lots of those these days.
My what now?
Usually walk around the office to see what others are working on and talk to different departments.
Read up on articles about dev and design
This and participating in coffee-related experiments with the engineers. Ya know... for science.
Oh, and we also have a FisherPrice basketball hoop in one of our spare rooms where we "take shots" a couple times a day.
And then there's Friday Game Day where, during lunch, we play a board game. Games played so far:
- Betrayal at the House on the Hill
- Zombie Dice
- Werewolf (aka Mafia, The Village; not a board game)
- And a few others...
Werewolf is awesome!
Seconding Betrayal at the House on the Hill. Love that game. And recommending Coup for a short card game!
I look at gifs on reddit
I just go check them out directly on imgur
Play Rocket League on PS4. We set one up in the design office.
I take a walk. I find it incredibly useful to clear my head and come back to work, refocused.
What is this "off-time" you speak of? I have heard but whispers of it passing in the night, but I always thought it was a legend or a myth.
Work on some side projects, watch some inspirational stuff, try out a new function / tool, chat about something interesting with fellow designers / developers
Seems fun !
Off-time at work? Is there such a thing? Just kidding. We've got a pretty good babyfoot table at the office :)
I've been vying for an office drum set since I started at my job!
Hearth"Fucking"Stone, I ain't got time for nothing else : http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/
Learning new tech stack and exploring something that is outside of my job scope.
Learn new stuff so you can charge more.
My offtime is usually reserved for pooping. Or catching up on emails. Or both.
