Weird bottom padding on the Gotham font

over 6 years ago from , Founder @ arsfutura.com

Hey DN, wondering if someone ran into this issue before.

Basically, we're developing mobile apps for a client who is using the Gotham font as their main brand font. What we noticed is that Gotham seems to have this weird padding on the bottom extending quite a bit below the beardline of the font.

Here you can see a comparison between the bounding boxes of Helvetica Neue and Gotham.

In design, we can get around this, but it would be cumbersome and wrong to try and fix this in code.

Helvetica Neue vs Gotham

Anyone have problems with this or can confirm this happens with their Gotham too? If you did, how did you fix it?

    Won't line-height solve this?

This is a real PITA to do on iOS, because we have to do it on every label and on every button, otherwise it looks messed up. I would much rather solve this on the font side if possible.
