Ask DN: Most Well Designed iOS Apps?

over 5 years ago from , Designer & Illustrator

Starting a new project and wanted to see if there were any iOS gems you guys know of to see if I don't already have them on my list.

Feel free to self advertise if you have a well designed app!

Elevate is my favorite iOS app design ever. I'd love to pick their designer(s) brain(s).

What kind of project is it? Because different categories will have slightly different design focus (aesthetic, functionality, ux...etc) :)

I think Airbnb did quite well with its UX:

    • Clean design, love the color palette
    • Easy-to-use
    • Esp. love the filter, great UI/UX

Any.do Cal has really nice UI:

    • Love the idea of photo background theme. ("photo background" is something that I don't normally like, I often find them annoying. But Cal somehow handles it quite well. User are able to pick different photo categories as well)
    • Detail animation ( I love apps that put effort into small animation. Sometimes it just comedown to the details that makes the app standout from others)

Beatwave is something fun to play around with. I didn't really have much study into this app to be honest, but it's an app that I still keep it in my phone just because it looks pretty and cool.

Does the current state of the market lend itself to anyone spending time on crafting a well designed app anymore?

Better off looking at things that released 3+ years ago.

It's still been paying off for our team to invest a lot of time into design and UX...

Our last 6 apps have been featured by apple so thats the part that makes it worthwhile. We make bespoke apps for artists/graphic designers. Half way between games and tools: Pixite Apps

Race to the bottom and lack of visibility/discoverability has made the well crafted app a waste of time and effort when throwing %$£ at a wall is more profitable.

Agree with you but on the other side if you don't spend time on UX/UI, your app will never be noticed and promoted. Nowadays promotion via the app stores is one of the most valuable factor of growth.
