ASK DN: Why do so many designers prefer writing about them in third person?

6 years ago from , UX Designer

I've been thinking of redesigning my personal site and in the process of looking at what others have done with their own sites, I'm finding a lot of writing in third person. I'll include a few examples, but really, I've found a lot.

I personally find first person writing ("I'm a designer") more natural than third person ("Juan is a designer"), but just to be clear, I'm not trying to be judgemental. I'm genuinely curious about the reason others had to do it in third person.

Interested to see what you think about this.

Depends on your personality, I suppose? Third person sounds more formal…perhaps even more "elevated?" Akin to an author bio on a dust jacket.

Those that consciously choose first person, probably tend to think it's more personable/friendly.

      Interesting angle, Ben.

In that case it's almost like: if you use third person that book better be good! ;)
