The new bookmark manager did do one thing well though, and that was auto folders that grouped your bookmarks into similar groups. I hope that feature comes back.
Thank God for that. It was an absolute mess!!
My gratitude to whomever stood up for the old bookmarks at google. Hopefully they didn't get in too much trouble for fighting the material design train/bulldozer.
On first glance the main difference seems to be that the new one had links as cards instead in a traditional list view. I think list view is a lot better for bookmarks.
What were the other differences?
Not too sure of all of them but the most recognisable and what a lot of people hated was the card view. The only features I can remember of the top of my head were automatically organised folders and the ability to search for bookmarks via title or content on the page saved.
No surprise really. The new UI was/is pretty, but highly impractical on desktop.

Can they at least improve the old version? Firefox does it so much better with tagging and a better manageable tree structure.
I really like the new bookmark system. Before it was just a list of links that meant nothing to me after I had saved them. Whereas now it is an organised grid of sites I like, that - as a visual person - is far more usable than text links.
And the auto folders is awesome, I have auto folders for Fonts, Print, Design, Restaurants. Which makes all the old bookmarks I have organised.
Garbage! Prefer the old design much better. Nice and simple, doesn't need to be fancy at all.
I felt so stupid using it. Seriously, It'd never suggest the folder I wanted to add the bookmark to.
