Am I missing something or did they make Google Docs?
I think this is a quick response for https://www.box.com/notes/ :D
Former Box Senior Designer here. Interesting tidbit, the designer at Box who was on the Notes product is now at Dropbox.
There are a few comments on here like "isn't this just like Google/Box/etc". Yes, this is somewhat true. They all do basically the same things, just slightly different UX and are targeted at different users. The thing to keep in mind is there's a content war going on in this space. The company that will win is the one that can get the most content on their platform. There are only so many things you can do as a company to capture user content before you need to go upstream and actually capture during the point of creation. This is the reason Dropbox has to create this product.
First page from dropbox that doesn't have any illustrations :)
Box Notes looks refined, and like they have been working on it for some time. This, for me, doesn't even look like something the guys @ Dropbox would create. Certainly a quick and messy response to Box Notes.
Why is that product preview at the end an image and not CSS?
Guys, we need a sign up page for Notes done ASAP. Not much detail, one small photo. Go. You've got 20 minutes.
What would be the benefit of recreating that in CSS? Page load time I guess, but for a simple promo thing like this it hardly seems worth it.
I was mostly thinking for showing the mockup at smaller sizes - this page currently drops the image at small sizes. And it's not like it would take too much time.
This isn't a quick response to Box (although I can see that it looks like it). This is actually the integration of Hackpad with Dropbox (following their acquisition).
I've been using a beta for a few months and, whilst not yet fully-featured, its shaping up to be a nice product.
The strategy is pretty obvious: Dropbox is a place to back-up and access files. It needs to become a place to create them (because we definitely won't be doing that locally for too much longer).
I am not really getting it. Why would choose anyone using Dropbox for storage and collaboration before Google Drive? We are pretty happy with the G
Jeez you guys are straight up nerds. How bout using it before trashing a landing page?
Wha? A landing page has nothing to do with using the product. A landing page is supposed to tell you about the product, get you interested in using it, and get you to sign up.
This landing page is horrid. The colors and contrast are assaulting to the eyes. The signup button nearly killed me.
Aside from the absolute insane design decisions the page literally tells me nothing about the product or it's advantages over comparable products.
So this is a rebranding and relaunch of Hackpad?
Timing and exact functionality of these features may change from what’s shared here.
from what i've gathered, they have no idea what it's going to be or when it will be released. maybe just gauging interest?
Dat green submit button contrast...
I haven't used Box as extensively as Dropbox, which I tend to use on a daily basis, but when I first came across Box Notes, it definitely looked like a very well thought out product, and truly felt delightful to use. Although it doesn't feel the same way through that single product screenshot, I'm definitely interested in diving deeper into Dropbox's product deeper before making a call...
How many of you signed up for the beta though? I did.
