Ask DN: Any Italian Designers?

over 4 years ago from , "Designers Should Code" Activist

Or, to be more exact, any designers working and living in Italy?

How's the job market, especially for UI Design? What about the Compensation?

I'm curious about how good being a UI Designer in Italy is.

Grazie!

    Hi Raffaello,

I am a 25yo employee designer in a marketing agency in Milan.

Unfortunately, company I am working with from about 4 years doesn't want to invest in design. That's one of the main reason why I am thinking to leave it definitively. I work here on adv campaign and social media channels, I - try - to design UIs of websites and apps but with no methods or design approaches (from both my side, 'cause I am still young in this field with few competences, and their sides, 'cause they prefer to hire just jr designers). No way to meet clients at all, no "creative" project. Just adapt what other external people/companies did on several formats.

My compensation, as apprentice, is about 20k/year. As Cirox said before, lower respect other countries and companies with design-center philosophy and mind.

Ciao Riccardo, Thanks for your reply.

That's a very unfortunate situation, indeed. I hope there are some good alternatives to work as a UI Designer in Milan, which, if I've heard well, is one of the best city economies in Italy.

Well, man, I wish you well. Ciao e grazie!

Hi Raffaello, I’m from Naples (south italy) and I’m living in Milan (north italy).

UI Design in Italy is good. There are very good designer.

In the last years the market has grown.

Compensation is lower respect England, Holland or Sweden, respect Berlin isn’t very different (I have ui designer friends in these places).

Here some interview on UI Designer living in Italy (in italian and in english). You can see interesting project like MusixMatch

    Interviews

(The interviews were conducted by my friend Francesco Rapacciulo and me)

Hi Raffaello, i'm living and wroking in Italy, in Milan.

Unfortunately in Italy there's still no the "pure" UI Designer figure, but a mix of UX/UI/Web and in most case you have to code as well with HTML CSS (that's good but after years you code you miss really the Designer work :) ).

Same words for the compensation, since you are not a UI Designer, it's not as the european/US standard, but it's more like a GRaphic designer compensation.

For the other side, Italy is one of the mos beautiful place in the world, with sun, food, pizza :D

    Hope i've helped you

ps. sorry for my english :)

      Vicenzo, Thanks for your reply.

Yeah, it sucks when a company doesn't consider you a UI Designer even though that's the kind of stuff you do. A Graphic Designer salary is definitely way lower than that of a UI/UX Designer.

Even though I haven't been to Italy yet, I'll agree with you that it's the most beautiful country in the world. That's one of the reasons why I'd like to work/live in there.

Non preoccuparti! Il tuo inglese e' buono. Ho capito tutto. Grazie per la tua risposta!
