All the kudos to this article.

Solid article... I've never lived in the valley but there many many times. My impression has always been starting elsewhere is a better move for most companies.

I'm not used to post things from Medium but this is the best read I had so far on startups and Silicon Valley.

Long for the NW. Lots of toxic environments down here in SV, despite the creativity to be found. People seem driven just to move.

I'm a designer at a startup in Seattle. While I'm sure the hiring wars are not on par with the Valley, it's still been very difficult to hire local talent for our startup. Some of that might be because the Facebooks & Googles have Seattle offices. Amazon and Microsoft do make it tough. So, tl;dr Seattle is not the Valley, but it's no cake walk. And yes, it rains everyday all day ;-)
