This is really, really solid design. It's hard to make large quantities of text easily readable, but I'd say this does the job well.
Philippians tells us to "approve what is excellent." I approve of NeuBible.
I guess you never worked in print.
I meant on a phone screen. Should've clarified.
My scroll, it has been hijacked.
Grounds for being turned into a pillar of salt.
I hope people dig the app.
agreed, the beta was really fun to be a part of.
The effort reminds me of this Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/530877925/bibliotheca
Really gorgeous website!
Not sure what is going on with the scroll jacking since it only feels semi-jacked and not necessary.
I had the privilege of working with Aaron. Extremely humble and talented human. For these guys to take the risk and build something that's as counter-culter as a bible at the quality it is deserves much respect.
You complete me.
Perhaps it would be worthwhile turning your attention to some of the other world religions. This is a really solid concept that I'm sure would be equally applicable to the Torah or Teachings of Buddha. Still, lovely work and I'm sure it will be greatly enjoyed by many.
Great UX. My only request is for an ESV version. That would be lovely.
Though, the ESV app isn't too bad actually. Its not nearly as nice as this though.
Licensing translations is expensive and time consuming. We have ESV, NIV, NKJV, and NLT in the legal works right now and we'll be releasing them in a dot release soon.
This is exciting! Looking forward to ESV as well... :)
Epic! Why the weird scroll on the page? Hard to read
This is really exciting. I've wanted an app like this for a long time. Just bought it, and am excited to dig it tomorrow morning.
Yes, I did. First I cracked open my physical bible and then remembered I wanted to test out this app. So I opened it and read 1 Cor. 11. I think I'll get the most out of this app when the iPad version is released. I'm young (24), but still find long-form reading isn't ideal on the iPhone (It's probably better on the 6 or 6 Plus, but I'm still on the 5s).
Love the typography options (even the defaults!), navigation experience, menu placement, color themes, etc. They've done such a great job designing this app. To be honest, I've been waiting for a well designed bible app for so long that this app is a wish fulfilled for me. My sole disappointment is that it's iPhone only at this point. I'd love to make this my primary bible reading app when the iPad version is released.
Kudos, and bravo to them. I'd be proud to sign my name to this app.
Thanks for making this. I've been looking for a better bible app for iOS for ages so I could replace the various subpar ones I've tried in the past. Love the font choices in the app. Purchased. :)
Gorgeous work guys. Who is the team behind? :)
Myself and my buddy Kory Westerhold.
Good stuff mate!
Did something change? I'm viewing on Safari and there is no scroll-jacking whatsoever. Clean site, clean looking product. Nice work.
Thank you. Thank you so much for those rounded corners.
Really beautiful and, true to the name, feels new. I opened to the main page and said to myself, "I don't think I've seen an app like this before." Great use of the sidebar especially. Thumbs up!
A couple notes: - I'd love there to be a way to remove the peaking-over page that shows when I swipe back to the book listing. That might just be the designer in me but that page feels a little cluttered and tight like this. - If you're on a reading page there's no great way to see what book / chapter you're in. Scrolling u shows it at the top but if you're at the beginning of a chapter it disappears. - Highlighting is cool — would be rad to have an index of my highlights somewhere.
You can swipe that page closed if you'd like. It's a bit tight since there are only about 40px there, but it's doable.
Whoops, definitely did not read the part where it's not really supported on the iPad yet. Bought it in the App Store, and of course everything is not as it should be. Really beautiful concept, though. I hope I can get a native iPad version as well as an Android version soon.
Yeah, I had a friend do that too :) He wanted iPad straight away and I asked him why and he didn't really have a good answer except that he wanted to use both his iphone and ipad at the same time to reference stuff, which doesn't seem like the vision that NeuBible has.
That being said, why are you wanting both iPad and Android?
Because I... own an iPad and an Android phone? I have the phone with me all the time, but I tend to do serious reading of longer texts on my iPad. But I also want to look things up on the phone or consult during the day, when I don't necessarily want to dig out my iPad.
But really, I just bought the iPad app because it looks beautiful and I wanted to try it, though unfortunately a lot of the beauty seems to be kind of absent since it isn't optimized for iPads. If it were an option, I probably would have gone with the Android version right away.
Ah ok, that make way more sense since I thought you had an iPone but also wanted the ipad :)
My bad. Good thoughts though.
Ah, yes, well, it does seem like I am breaking the fundamental laws of design by owning an Android phone, so I don't blame you for assuming. ;)
ha ha. Happens to the best of us.
We are planning on iPad support in the near future, so you'll have it soon.
Awesome! Great job. It's a gorgeous design.
Really loving the app! Exactly the simple and elegant experience I've been looking for in a bible app. I see ESV is coming soon! AWESOME
Beautiful app! Makes reading the Bible on a mobile device a pleasure!
Wow, looks great and the interface is really polished and smooth. I don't see great design work in this particular corner of culture, so seeing something this well made and thought out is a really pleasant surprise and very much appreciated. Definitely will make this my main Bible app once the ESV translation is added!
Really want to check the site out. Scrolling does nothing, nor does arrow keys or spacebar. What's happening here?
What browser are you on? I am on chrome/mac and it's fine, Safari/mac and I am fine. No hijacking at all, just a lot of parallax.
Chrome/mac. Just checked it out using Safari and had no problems.
Lovely site. Nicely done.
This is just beautiful! Thank you!
Fantastic, bought it.
And the prize for most annoying scroll hijack goes to...
Great job on this! I really like the visual appearance and the navigation pattern in the app.
Can't wait until the android version comes out. This looks really nice.
I just purchased. I really like this design. The animations are nice, the navigation is well thought-out, and it's fast (oh, and Sentinel font? Yes please!). I was also pleasantly surprised that I did not need to make an account. Super easy to use.
The only nitpick I have is that I wish the app did not have rounded corners on its borders. Reminds me of a Palm phone app or something.
ha ha that is super nit picky :)
I am actually a big fan of the rounded corners. It makes the app standout a little bit. My two cents.
Take icons on the iPhone homescreen as an example. What if one of them didn't comply with the rounded square standard, but instead had its own shape or size? It would stand out... but not in a good way.
That is how I feel about rounded edges in an iPhone app. It's distracting.
I actually like the rounded corners as well. I somehow find it relaxing, more conducive to long-form reading (can't really point out if there's any science to that)... :)
Looks awesome! I've been a huge fan of GLO for a long time but found myself looking for a lighter bible like this. The 1.99 price point and then having to buy translations on top of that (though I'm sure that isn't the app's fault) slows me down from committing. However I will probably pull the trigger at some point.
Very well designed!
fwiw WEB, ASV, and KJV are all included for free.
Yeah but I like to use ESV and NIV for most study. And when there are free apps out there that offer those versions, it's kinda hard to justify.
But like I said, I am a sucker for design so I will probably get this soon. :-)
I just downloaded it. Holy guac. Worth $5 IMO.
Both ESV and NIV are coming soon, but all for in-app purchase. I will gladly pay for those as well.
