I am looking to disable all anti-alias in Sketch to drawn pixel art? Fireworks is the only tool I can think which supports pixel and vector tools, are there others on Mac?
I don’t believe anti-aliasing can be disabled in Sketch.
I think the main features you're probably after for pixel art are:
- Being able to paint with a non-antialiased pencil or brush.
- Nearest neighbour scaling (keep blocky things blocky when you scale).
- Non-antialiased selections.
- Being able to export the formats you'll need (PNG? GIF?).
Based on that criteria, there’s a few tools that can do it. Pixen is awesome, and worth investigating:
I'd also highly recommend Photoshop, predominately using the Pencil Tool — it does exactly what you're after, letting you paint non-antialiased pixels easily. It also has some other tools that might be handy, like posterisation.
Acorn would be my third option on the Mac. It has a pencil tool that's similar to Photoshop, as well as nearest neighbour scaling (if you need it).
You can do it in Sketch, but I wouldn't recommend it. My experiences with 1x1 px dots in Sketch are really bad. Performance is horrible when you have a lot of those.
I think you better use Photoshop or Pixelmator for that needs, but if you really want to use Sketch do this:
- Right click on the Toolbar
- Click "Customise Toolbar"
- Drag "Show Pixels" on the Toolbar
- Click the button to view pixels grid
- Zoom in very many times, until you will see the pixels grid
- Draw a rectangle inside the pixel
Pixelmator doesn't support nearest neighbor scale.
Something that supports both pixels and vectors for Mac? That must be Affinity: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/
I'm almost a bit confused it wasn't mentioned earlier?
Pixelmator supports both pixel and vector.
Creating Pixel Art in Illustrator
I'm using PyxelEdit.
It's made for pixel art run on both PC/Mac,
The tile features is great.
You should try it before make decision.
Pixen seconded, awesome for exploring pixel space
This was posted this here recently if you go the Photoshop route. Might be helpful: http://graphicriver.net/item/pablo-the-pixel-art-builder/3008103
Whow, that would be very very cool. But I have not foud a way to turn it off.
But Sketch does allow you to make plugins for it. Maybe there lies a possibilty.
