Apple Watch Event - Discussion Thread

almost 5 years ago from , Creative Lead, WeWork

As I'm sure we are all aware, Apple will be hosting an event today (at 10AM PDT) that will likely revolve around the launch of Apple Watch. I didn't see that anyone had posted a discussion thread for this, and I'm really interested to see how the design community feels about this especially controversial product as more features are revealed.

Shame those new MacBooks aren't really powerful enough for heavy use - they're beautiful.

Not the watch, but this is interesting: it looks like the text on the new MacBook's keyboard is set in San Francisco. I'm thinking that typeface is slowly going to take over the Apple brand.

So who's giving up 10k for a watch that'll be obsolete within 2 years?

I think it's great that they're enabling work in medical research the way they are.

I was more interested in the new Macbook; couldn't possibly care less about the Watch.

Is anyone else bothered by the USB-C thing? I know, I know, "industry standard, minimalism, blah blah blah", but I find it a little irritating that I'd need a $79 dongle to connect my "legacy" USB devices.

That said, I hope they release the Pro in these new colors. Space Gray 13" rMBP = TAKE. MY. MONEY.

Apple always seems to tease products in their event graphics. Thoughts on today's?

A spring is a common element in traditional Watch mechanisms. It's also the season of the year that's starting soon in Western cultures. Anything else?

Good thought. The element reminded me a lot of a flower, which is has been used as the icon for photos apps. Apple has been working on a cloud based photo app to replace iPhoto - maybe that?

We also adjusted our clocks forward an hour yesterday as part of daylight savings... which many refer to as "spring forward" ("fall back" for the adjustment in the latter part of the year).

I always assumed they were playing off that - seeing as how they are doing this on the first possible workday after it (aren't Apple things usually on Tuesdays?).

Yeah definitely because of Daylight savings time. A Time reference.

I was excited to see the #AppleWatch revealed today and honestly the price point on the sport edition ($349-399) wasn't as high as I expected. Anyone planning to design some apps for the watch? If so, you might find this article helpful: http://thinkapps.com/blog/design/apple-watch-apps-important-design-principles/
