Anybody know of good design job boards to find part time employment like 10-20 hours a week? I'm trying to balance my own freelancing, but also would like to work with a design agency, startup or some other type of in-house team. Most of the jobs I see listed are all 40hrs a week. Thanks for any suggestions.
Have you tried contacting any design agencies or startups to see if they have a need for part-time help?
My last part-time gig was landed by e-mailing a bunch of local startups who looked like they could use some design help.
The side effect of this is even if someone doesn't have a current need, you'll get on their radar and hopefully meet some new people.
Matt has the right approach.
Thanks Matt, Great idea!
Sign up for a PickCrew.com account, we've got some really awesome jobs coming through everyday.
Just signed up, thanks!
PickCrew seems like a really cool service. Signed up there too, just right now.
Going to Meetups has yielded results for me. Don't go to design-focused ones, but rather ones oriented toward entrepreneurs. There are lots of founders walking around, but few other types. Founders light up when they meet someone with design skill. All the business cards.
Plug: if you're in the SF area, StudyBlue is looking for a part time marketing designer. I'm a designer there, pretty cool place. Selective but worth a shot.
Thanks everybody for all the helpful tips!
You got some solid stuff in your portfolio, do you have a Dribbble profile? I've heard that can be quite good for freelance gigs. Admittedly I haven't had any solid enquiries through there but I haven't been a member long and my designs are ok but not amazing.
Some sort of marketing course might be worth looking into as it might teach you ways to get your name out into the ether. I need to do something similar to be honest.
Anyway, good luck with the P/T gigs.
Thanks Marcus. I'd love to get on Dribbble, and I'm hoping to earn an invite one of these days. I know the place has been getting knocked a bit, but it seems like it would be a nice place to share design and practice.
Yeah, I'm definitely wanting to improve my marketing skills. I also just need to be getting out to more meetups and other events, and away from the screen.
I appreciate the feedback and good luck to you to!

Woohoo, you made my Sunday morning, thanks Casey!
This is something that I think a lot of people go through as freelancers. I am always looking to pick up extra hours.
I've put together a collection of cool sites for remote design jobs / freelance gigs.
I'm currently in the throes of setting up a startup which caters for freelancers looking for smaller timeframes of work. The site is underway and currently have my first round of funding to bolster the idea.
Feel free to ask any questions
This a good idea, I've just signed up.
Where are you located?
I'm in Oakland, CA.
