Ask DN: Sketch Symbol Feature for Illustrator and InDesign?

over 6 years ago from , UX Designer

Is there a way to update and reuse content dynamically (Sketch app symbol feature) in Illustrator or InDesign?

I would use Sketch, but the company I work only has Adobe CC products at the moment and will not use Sketch because we have PCs in our workflow.

Yep, Illustrator has the ability to create Symbols.

InDesign has Object Libraries, but I don't think they work the same as Illustrator's symbols.

Thanks a bunch! I learned a bit more about Illustrator and InDesign.

Now, is there a better way to update text and styles without having to paste/manually edit every object in the file? Sort of like a find and replace.

        Glad to hear it.

In Illustrator, for text you can use Edit -> Find and Replace. To simply swap fonts you can use Type -> Find Font.

You would have to assign them first, but Illustrator has Character and Paragraph Styles under Window -> Type.

InDesign has a much more extensive Find & Replace that allows you to use regular expressions and adjust styles.
