What would you choose?
Wow forgot to check back on DN and am pleased with all these responses. I have new font pairs to try for days! Thanks guys. A big fan of the Avenir family myself.
Jaf Bernino Sans and Equity Text
JAF Facit + Skolar.
Josefin Slab & Alegreya Sans.
Beautiful, and lots of weights to combine.
I'm a fan of Alegreya Sans, but have a hard time using/pairing fonts with Josefin Slab. Great recommendation!
For digital? Probably Proxima Nova and Georgia. Both are extraordinarily versatile, and don't overwhelm the personality of the content when used properly.
Lato or Avenir Next and Gentium Basic
Currently I really dig one font it is ... Proxima Nova
Gill Sans and Baskerville: Titling and body
Proxima Nova. Works like a charm in every possible use case.
Open Sans and Baskerville (Libre version if I have to have it all open-source).
Opens Sans for the weights/styles and versatility, and Baskerville for the serif (both accent and body).
Type specimens from Font Squirrel.
Junicode and Neutral.
Aperçu Medium & Garamond.
is it just me or the u is just a flipped n? Looks terrible btw http://i.imgur.com/Dld4ZyZ.png
Mine would have to be Verlag and Sentinel. Verlag is very versatile and looks great in bold or light weights, all caps with large amounts of tracking. Sentinel has quite possibly the nicest italic and is great for body copy.
I'd go with some classics: Akzidenz-Grotesk and Baskerville.
Gotham + Didot
I think you missed the point of the exercise.
Lora and Istok Web. Love the combination
TheSans and TheSerif from Lucas de Groot. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesis_%28typeface%29
Comic Sans & Papyrus..
Serious answer: I love Source Sans Pro. If I had to pair it with anything it would be Noto Serif.
Sorry for no links/images, I'm on a mobile
What do you mean, font "pair"? Why would you need anything other than Helvetica Neue Ultra Light?
Gotham with Sentinel.
Never mix DC with Marvel
Except, these are two comics of the same family.
my fault, I was thinking about these sentinels :) http://bit.ly/1ussAMK
I'm an absolute novice in the world of typography, but I latched on to Montserrat in my web work and found myself using it all over the place afterwards. To pair (and this, again, may be because of my inexperience, but as I've started trying to really learn about fonts this simply happened) I've developed a crush on Baskerville for a serif.
If either of those are in really bad taste I would appreciate someone telling me (and teaching me why!). It's a lot like having your fly down in public.
I absolutely love Montserrat!
Theinhardt and Tiempos
Comic Sans & Papyrus.
Easy there, Satan.
You sure you don't want Lobster in the mix somewhere?
Lobster 2 is the shiz
Fo' shizzle ma' nizzle!
This is my favorite DN post ever.
I don't have an answer for you but I wrote this article on pairing (and mentioned your Just My Type, Mr. Eden).
Sabon + Aften. They are so good, I mean, you're gonna cry because they are so beautiful.
I’m pretty sure my answer will change at least once every few years, but I’ve been pretty hung up on Leitura News and Franklin Gothic for a while.
Other favourite pairs include:
- Chronicle Display Condensed & Mercury Text
- Scala & Scala Sans
- Whitney & Mercury Text
- Domaine Display Narrow & Tiempos Text
I also put together Just My Type to show off some nice type pairs from H&Co. and Typekit.
Leitura and Franklin are lovely.
Scala & Scala Sans <3
Definitely Helvetica Neue and Times New Roman.
If you are using system and/or Google fonts, I like the pairing of Avenir Next with Merriweather. Tons of different weights so you have freedom to set some different moods.
If you are looking for some inspiration, check out:
Ah. A great pair. My favorite combo also includes Avenir Next.
I absolutely love when I get to use Avenir Next and Baskerville together. A classic pairing sure, but oh-so clean and forever timeless. It just works.
Thank you Evan, you made my day with Typ.io ^
Thumbs up for Avenir Next, it's fantastic.
Love this pairing.
Typ.io is a great find. Thanks for listing all these resources
