Ask DN: Why do you hate Facebook?

over 5 years ago from , Freelance Web Designer

From the past DN Posts, I came to know that most DN Members hate Facebook, So if you do so, can you tell me the reason why you hate Facebook. How it spoils your life and how can it make better? Just wanted to know your thoughts. That's it.

If you do not hate Facebook, that's okay.

For me, the best way I can explain it is that it feels like an enclosed room of narcissism.

Unlike twitter (and other social networks including DN), which actively link out, encourage people to learn, explore, discuss and find new information and ideas, Facebook actively tries to keep you on their site and encourage you to judge and be judged by others.

Might not make sense, but that's how it makes me feel

My feed is now full of birthdays, irrelevant sponsored links, buzzfeed or clickbait articles, blurry bathroom selfies, people saying they're ill... That's 90% of it on any given day.

I don't hate Facebook, but it's not exactly offering me any value. I pretty much stopped using it over the past year. It's not what it was when I first signed up to it.

Messenger and Instagram get used a lot though.

I guess for me it's the way a lot of people use it. Perhaps being in my 40's makes me a bit more reluctant to share the more personal info etc, but frankly I feel i see to much of it on Facebook.

More and more often i see folks posting things that I'm rather embarrassed to see. Whether it's fishing for sympathy due to their latest heartbreak, or sharing things that are WAY to personal etc...

generally it's TMI...i don't want or need to know a lot of this stuff....

I post on Twitter and my Twitter updates my Facebook status that way. Honestly, I'd love to leave Facebook, but my closest friends and family are on it and they regularly contact me through it. Besides that, I just use it to share posts that come across my feed and interest me.

I've been feeling lately that I've been checking Facebook too much. Not sure how to fix that...maybe I could make sure my newsfeed only has posts from NASA? Idk, I have a like/hate relationship with it, but I definitely prefer Twitter via Tweetbot.
