Ask DN: Anyone willing to be my design mentor?

over 8 years ago from , Design by Marcus

Hi,

I've been learning about graphic design for a few months and been applying what I've learnt to website UI's. I want to get to a point where I'm confident enough and good enough to get a low level job or some freelance work here and there.

It would be cool if I were able to ask a few questions every now and then and maybe have some critiques when I design a new UI. Being 34 and venturing into a possible new career I'll take any help I can get that could hopefully speed up my journey. Here's my Dribbble profile to show where I'm at in terms of skill (or lack thereof) :-

Thanks, Marcus

I could help with this, I'm a UI designer on 1Password and a couple of other projects. Always happy to have a look at what you've done and give some direction if I can.

What does "mentor” mean to you? What kinds of help would be most valuable?

I guess just advice/critiques about my designs would very useful starting out. As a beginner I might be making very obvious design no-no's that would take me months/years to realise I'm doing. I hoping some design advice here and there could accelerate my learning and progress as I'm not exactly a youngster any more. That would be about it for now as I don't think I'm good enough to take on regular paid work so business/freelance advice might be useful but probably a tad premature.

I'm not sure I could be of any use to the mentor at the moment but I'd love to help out other people in the same way if I ever get good enough.
