My team has been setting up our Photoshop files using the new linked smart object feature in CC 2014. Is there another design team out there that works like this? The functionality is fantastic—with one major pain point.
I've created a PSD for each component and made each state of it into a layer comp. For example, we use a custom toggle in our PSDs, so I've created a toggle PSD, made layer comps for both its on and off states. Then, for every instance of the toggle, I've linked to that same PSD. If we change our toggle style, I simply change it in that one place and it updates in every file. It's eliminated redundancy in our designs, and ensured that our files are always up to date and in-synch with each other.
Has anyone been able to solve for sharing the same folder of linked smart objects from designer to designer? Right now, we have a folder on Dropbox with all linked smart objects in it, but each time another designer opens the PSD, they have to relink the smart objects, because Photoshop uses absolute paths instead of relative paths. Has anyone figured out a way around this?
