Ask DN: How do you use Designer News?

almost 5 years ago from

I'm curious… do you typically just browse the top stories, or the recent stories too? How often do you visit?

i visit about every 2 hours or so, i usually browse the top stories on my first visit but after that i usually only check recent stories. I comment about 3 times a week but I tend to read a lot more articles :)

I visit it every 10-20 minutes when I'm working, once 1-2 hours when I'm at home. I usually have a tab dedicated for it and opened almost all the time.

Browse the recent stories most of the time.

I visit frequently. Maybe every hour and a half to two and a half hours. I always look at Recent Stories--DN is small enough that I can look at every story without making it a full time job. This has been changing recently, though. On weekdays, if I go half a day without looking there will be a few pages of new links. When I first joined DN, there was probably about a bit more than a page a day on a good day. Weekends are the worst--I'm active, but I'd guess that 60-85% of DN users aren't, and therefore aren't posting links.

I browse over it every morning and open up articles that look useful/interesting. I quickly skim them to see if they're applicable to me, and bookmark them if so. I've bookmarked 100s of DN articles, and rarely refer back to them. But it's nice to know they're there.

I usually click for the recent stories first. I see top stories every time I open a new tab (Panda/Chrome extension). Visit - multiple times per day.

It along with my emails is the first thing I open when I launch firefox, just out of habit i guess. I usually read the top stories as well as a few recent ones.

I visit the site once or twice a day. I mostly just read the top stories. I also follow @designernewsbot on Twitter. I don’t comment as much as I would like to.

    Twice a day (usually).

In the morning, while I'm still waking up and wouldn't be an effective designer, I tend to skim the first page or two of top stories until I recognize the majority of stuff was posted the day before. I don't read everything; just the things that seem to fit my interests/profession.

In the afternoon, when I'm trying to settle back down after lunch, I check out recent stories, mainly looking to see if there's anything I can read long form to get myself focused.

Depending on how busy or distracted I'm getting during my day, I may check in a few more times, but rarely for long.

I visit usually a few times a day and glance over recent and top stories and poke my head into any discussions. I also try to post something new at least once a week.

I open it first every morning, read top stories, leave it open and check it frequently, so I won't be scrolling in Facebook during work...

I read it through Feedly and read recent stories as they come in, then occasionally go back to browse the top stories' comments again later in the day.

Gaze over top stories first thing in the morning and bookmark articles to read at night.

I visit the site about twice a day but I always scroll down Recent Stories to pick up where I left off.

When I'm on my phone, I usually favorite/bookmark stories via @designernewsbot on Twitter or I read comments via The News app.

I also have the Panda extension for Chrome so I'm always using that to check the Top Stories (while also looking at stuff from Dribbble.)

Oh, and my home button on Chrome redirects to DN's Recent Stories.

I visit once in the morning, check out Top Stories. And once (or twice if I’m bored) more in the afternoon to see if there is anything new. Rarely go to recent stories.

I use Panda! Since I started using it, I definitely read Designer News more frequently. Plus, you can stay up to date with other news and inspiration. :)
