Security notice from Macaw

over 6 years ago from , UX Researcher

This is the note:

Yesterday there was unauthorized access to one of our servers which contained an old backup of our user database. While we do not believe user data was a target of this unauthorized access, out of an abundance of caution, we wanted to inform our users.

This database contained user email addresses, company names, and hashed passwords that had been backed up on 9/4/2014. This server did NOT have any credit card or other payment information (we never store that information). The server was taken offline within a few hours of the unauthorized access to prevent any further issues.

Even though all passwords were hashed, as a precaution, we recommend you change your password by visiting https://secure.macaw.co/account and clicking "Change Password" in the top right corner after logging in. If you have used this same password on other websites or services, we recommend you change those as well.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience.

Good on them for being so upfront about it.

If you have used this same password on other websites or services

...you are silly and shouldn’t do that. Please. Please, don’t do that.
