Ask DN: Do you work from home some days of the week as well as in the office?

I can work from home 2 days a week in my current job and if I'm sick I can do more days. It's a nice benefit to have and it's definitely nothing new to the industry although some places can be quite strict about it.

How many people here work from home part of the week and how do you find it in terms of productivity?

I've worked for multiple agencies with a physical office (with a bit of working from home every now and then), and for the past year i've worked from home 100% of the time. I know I get way more work done at home vs. in an office.

I think the problem with being home for part of the week and at the office others is that you miss out on the regular "office stuff" that helps you form relationships and take part in building your company's culture. I've definitely seen people be the first to go from teams because they didn't become "part" of it, by eschewing the "time wasting" social stuff.

So I'd say if you're gonna work from home a couple days a week, be super crazy visible to the rest of the people at the office in some way or another. So they know you're still around, available, and awesome.

I work at a traditional ad agency & once a week I work remotely. I know they don't fully trust me that I actually do work, but the irony is that on this one day I get far more done than when I'm in the office due to the lack of distractions. Crazy!

I did this for a year at an agency in London. They let me work 3 days at home and 2 days in the office because I was commuting a fair distance. I think this arrangement works very well. It makes your office time more valuable and forces you to prioritise tasks. I had it figured that time in the office was meeting / briefing / collaboration time. I'd get all my notes together and then do the grunt work at home.
