Is Tavern trying to be another clone of DesignerNews?

http://zurb.com/tavern - for me it's just a tool for Zurb (studio) for positioning their site and creating some buzz around them. I personally can't say any bad word about Zurb or Tavern (forrst).

So basically you can answer questions, but only one per day (which makes me wondering why is there any limitation).

This is just what it looks like to me, just a feeling. Anyone has the same or is it just me?

For me, Designer news and Tavern is completely different.

Tavern selected interesting question each day and there are many people answering them. The questions ranged from life topic, management topic, design topic, and sometimes coding topic. I learned a lot from those questions / answers.

Designer news, on the other hand, is the curated links and discussion topics are mostly design-related. I also learned a lot from Designer news.

Both websites are invaluable for me :D

I've been a member of Tavern for a few months now, and I have to admit, I don't quite understand the purpose of it.

I've only responded to a few questions, but really, I don't understand why someone would use Tavern over something like DN, Quora or even Reddit

    Maybe that's just me though

edit: In answer to your question, no, I don't think it's trying to be a clone of DN. It's really just a Designer Question of the Day, but sometimes it's just Designer First World Problems.

I'm also having a hard time with it. I feel like there isn't a lot of discussion happening as much as someone pitches an opinion into the ring.

As a UX Designer looking to learn more visual/graphic design, I'd love to have something like Forrst or some kind of closed community of peers for offering advice.

    No, it's totally different.

It looks like an interesting focussed-discussion community around design. Less aggregator and more conversation.

To me, it's a complete bastardization of Forrst.

I used to be an active Forrst member, and really loved it. Zurb was the first owner since Kyle Bragger that actually seemed to be doing something with it, which made me happy (despite the fact that I didn't use it anymore).

Now they've turned it into a platform that seemingly has no real draw or interest--I can't name a person who would be interested in answering one question a day.

We're living in an online world of saturation, and I think Zurb's angle might be to focus on one thing at a time. The problem with that is it doesn't remove the rest of the saturation that's out there--it only limits the interaction I can have with their site. I can be the one who determines what I do and don't want to consume--I don't need their help with that.

"Sign Up" and "Sign In" don't really work together on their landing page, maybe they should get some feedback on that one as it's a common ux fail.

Initially, I thought it was a very similar concept and started to question the purpose of Tavern. However after diving deep into it, it is different. Tavern curates Product Design questions, where the community could have long discussion over it and designers could have their say in it.

Personally, I learn from them as it gives us interesting perspective and insights about Product Design around the world. And because it's usually the same people discussing on it, you really begin to know these individuals.

Both are a fantastic design community that brings passionate designers together.

Btw, I'm from ZURB; and I love Designer News religiously.

I had to turn off their email alerts. They were sending me 2-3 emails a day with some new "forum topic". It seemed there was more than one question per day.

See I'm not sure it is, Tavern as mentioned provides you with a question each day, Designer News is community led with a curated list of links.

Tavern is the spiritual successor to Forrst.

Tavern is based off of Forrst if I'm not mistaken, something thats been around longer than Designer News. And besides, Designer News is another clone of "hacker news", though each platform solves their own sets of problems.
