Ask DN: Has anyone implemented proactive live chat?

We're looking at adding live chat to our e-commerce site, but I'm struggling to find impartial resource on the benefits of proactive (so form of alert to encourage the user to chat) vs reactive (a simple button). Any articles I find are from blogs of live chat providers.

Does anyone have any experience with this or any resources they can link to? Thanks DN!
