Ask DN: Anybody not upgrading to iOS8 tomorrow?

almost 6 years ago from , Freelance Developer

There is going to be a lot of people rushing to upgrade to iOS8 tomorrow, I'm wondering if anybody will be holding off for any reason?

I normally like to wait a few days to see if there are any serious issues with apps that I use, wondering if this is common practice for other people?

    Nah, I don't think I will.

I could go into detail about this and assess the pros and the cons, perhaps share my opinion on grabbing software on release vs waiting until the hot-fixes are in, or share personal anecdotes about how upgrading to the latest version of iOS has affected me in the past.

    Instead, I'll just say this:

    Nexus 5, bitches!

I have to. The red update icon hypnotises me to do it. It's the only way to get rid of it.

My iPhone 4 is still going strong so no iOS8 for me. I'm now officially obsolete.

Still on iPhone 4,so I won't be able to upgrade. My phone is "vintage" from now on I guess.

I'm not going to upgrade, going to keep my jailbreak. I wont be upgrading to iOS8 until there is a stable jailbreak for it.

Me too. My lock button broke so I'm using Activator and long pressing a volume button to lock my device.

Without a jailbreak, I can't lock my phone without the horrible accessibility thing.

Yeah, I usually wait till the weekend for OS updates.

No sense in updating immediately if it can wait.

I've got an iPhone 4S and:

    1. iOS7 is already slow sometimes (compared to iOS7 on a 5C),
    2. there aren't that many new features for the 4S and
    3. some tests of a 4S on iOS8 beta showed a noticeable performance hit.

So I guess I'll wait as much as possible (until my favorite apps and Apple stop iOS7 updates and support... or I get tired of that red update icon),

Have been using Yosemite and iOS 8 since the early days of beta, so I will definitely update as soon as possible.

    One reason: jailbreak.

I'll wait until I've got the iPhone 6, makes the product feel more 'new' I suppose. (Got iPhone 4, iOS 7 at the moment)

Not upgrading! My only reason to upgrade would be Continuity for iMessage and phone calls but since Yosemite is not ready then I will wait.

Other possible reasons would be if IOS8 improves battery life a lot which is not the case. On the contrary from beta test I got less battery, and btw I still regret upgrading from 7.0.1 cause my battery has never been the same since.

What ios device are you using which caused poor battery in the beta builds?

The 5S but it is to be expected from any beta to have lower battery performance. In fact the multitude of new functions will affect the battery for sure. I have lost 10-15% after 7.1.1 then I expect ~10% lower battery life from iOS8. Don't get me wrong, I like the iOS8 and I barely manage to restrain myself from upgrading ...

iPhone 4S too. Can't run the risk of iOS 8 making my phone even slower.

Eventually of course they'll force you to upgrade when a release of WhastApp is no longer compatible or something.

I'll try and hold off until I can get my hands on the iPhone 6. The notification icon might drive me near crazy before that happens though, so we'll see. haha

I have a 4s. So i'm going to install iOS8. I know it might be heavy for my phone but I was planning on buying a 6 anyway. I've skipped one generation and I don't want to skip 2 generations.

I still have an iPhone 4 so... I guess no iOS 8 for me until I change my phone.

I've had iOS8 for a while now and can't really spot any difference or improvements in my day-to-day use. I have spotted that WLAN connectivity has been spotty, hopefully that will be solved in the real real golden master.
