What Android Phone would you recommend?

6 years ago from , UX/UI Designer

Hey guys,

I'm looking for an android phone. Mostly for work/testing reasons but also to really use android and get a deeper experience in terms of design patterns.

It would be my secondary phone, so there is no need for much space. Also I do want a »clean« android, not a customized version by a manufacturer.

I'm thinking about the nexus 5 or a Moto G (cheaper). Without a contract of course.

Any other phones I should consider? What would you recommend?

Well, as a user for 3 years I can say that they all suck in different ways. You should go with the pure Nexus line if you just want it for testing. It has the best compatibility and will be the first Android L device. With any other phone you will probably have to wait 3-6 months.

no, those are your two options for sure. Moto G does have a few 'motorola' type UI things, but it's very close to the 'pure' Nexus experience. And price is amazing.

Nexus phone is a must for stock android experience. But if you want to get an android device for testing your new apps, you might need to survey which phone is popular among your target audience. Like my location a lot people using Samsung S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3 so that we need to get those phone for testing to ensure our target audience have a smooth experience when they have downloaded our apps etc.

Thanks, but I didn't mean it in a hardcore-dev-testing-kinda-way. Just more for the overall experience.
