My first Smashing Magazine post, yay! Thanks Oliver.
Feel free to ask away on Jekyll/GitHub/blog questions :)
But I like the command line!
In all seriousness tho, I'm just dipping my toes into Jekyll. Seems like a good guide. When I get around to wrestling with subdomains on Github pages, I'll have to give this a go.
If you like the command line, then you might prefer jumping in terminal first. There's great documentation for that on http://jekyllrb.com/
I've been looking into Jekyll, do you know of any more examples of Jekyll in use?
I really like the work of Development Seed, they post a lot of great blog content on Jekyll projects that they're working on. http://developmentseed.org/blog/2011/09/09/jekyll-github-pages/
A nice collection of themes: http://jekyllthemes.org/
Some hand picked sites from the Jekyll team: http://jekyllrb.com/docs/sites/
There's a heeeuge list of Jekyll sites here too: https://github.com/jekyll/jekyll/wiki/Sites
No problem, I can't wait to rebuild my site with your article in mind. :)
We've been running our site (http://denimandsteel.com) on Jekyll and GH pages for a few years now. It's been great, I definitely recommend learning to do this.
