A suggestion for DN

5 years ago from , Director, Bubble Creative

Hi all,

I love reading Designer News but one feature that I think would make it even better is to add the option to favourite a post .

These could then be accessed from somewhere in your profile, or perhaps an extra link in the menu on the left-hand side once a user is logged in.

I realise this requires time and effort to dev but I think it would be a great feature for the site and its users.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before or this isn't the way to go about suggestions...but what do you guys think?

+1. I have been saving them as bookmarks for this.

Same here and its getting a bit messy in my bookmarks. I know there are bookmark managers out there but would just prefer it to be all in one place here.

I haven’t found the perfect setup yet, too. I’m trying out Dragdis and Unmark. The only actual tool I almost religiously use is Pocket.

Instead of "favorites", they could simply display the +1's in your profile (since that data already exists).

ProductHunt does it, and it's pretty dang handy.

If you're on Chrome look into BetterDN

I think it'd be a nice-to-have feature on sites like DN that have a plethora of amazing content, but there's a big selection of 3rd party software like Pocket or even Dragdis that are completely focused on doing just that sort of thing.

There's also the bonus of using their dedicated apps and browser extensions.

Hmm… what for? So other users can see your favourited posts? Or just so you can find stuff you liked/read?

In terms of development, I think it would be easier for the devs to just display the posts you’ve upvoted. Then the upvote gets an additional functionality of “showing up” on your profile. But it’s in line with what we have today with comments & posts.

Hi Alex, just as a way of saving the stuff you like on here.

I find that a lot of the time I will see something on here in work, then when I get home its effort to dig it out again. I wasn't thinking public to be honest, just a place you can save stuff to view later or again in the future.

      Thanks for the reply!
