Eric Meyer lost his daughter, Rebecca, very recently. If you click on the link in the header, it'll take you to Jeffrey Zeldman's post about #663399Becca.
I thought it would be nice to change Designer News from Blue to Purple for the next day or two in solidarity.
It is. Thank you.
.
Love this.
You're a good guy, Allan.
You did great, love it!
Make it an avatar colour for anyone who logs in today? A worthy commemoration, I think.
Sad story.
Pleasantly surprised to see that up there this morning. It's great to see, and actually doesn't look to bad. Nice job.
Hear! Hear!
Seriously? Click on it, you knob.
Edit: Sorry for the name calling.
People are desperate for points these days aren't they?
This made me emotional...
Aaand some asshole downvoted it.

Some people browse the site on tablets. There's no need to be sarcastic.
As an aside, I think this colour is nice, can we keep it?
But MOMMMMMM
Hey, check this you will know http://lmgtfy.com/?q=%23663399Becca
Good work changing the header. Nice touch. So sad.
On the funny side of things: My default Twitter avatar is Brett Favre in his #4 Packers jersey... Lucky me he played for the Vikings also so I could seamlessly purple-ify my avatar without looking strange :)))
I met Eric at An Event Apart San Diego last year. His was among the first blogs I read that got me into web design, and I had the privilege of letting him know I was a longtime fan.
I had no idea his daughter was so sick. What an awful thing to go through.
My heart goes out to Eric, and his family. I hope they eventually are able to look past their grief, and remember the happier moments with Rebecca before the sad ones. Sorry your spark has left this world.
