Web app != desktop app
Exactly what I thought.
Good thing no one called it a desktop app.
Just a desktop calendar, which means an experience aimed at desktop, which is what Sunrise claims this is.
Sunrise has proven itself to me time and time again, and it starts with the team. They are open to feedback and suggestions, and they always handle it with kindness and enthusiasm. They are constantly tinkering with the details so that the experience improves with each beta.
I tried Fantastical, and for a while I didn't know which way I'd go. Sunrise is just...pleasing to use. There is a clear sense that they discuss pain points with each other, and try not to build anything that isn't fun to use.
Full disclosure, I'm a calendar nerd. My wife and I use it as a travel log to remember things and keep a personal history.
Several months ago, I installed Sunrise iPhone version and removed it after minites.
Two days ago, I found it rised on Chrome App Store. After try the chrome app, actually it is the desktop one, it is exactly what I am looking for. This time I installed the iOS back and it is the time to give it a thumb.
Thank you Millie! Glad to have you back onboard with us!
WTF Facebook permissions?!
This! I was about to give it a try but options to connect via email, facebook or google plus just was a BIG no no for me.
How else would you want to connect your calendars besides authentication? :-)
What if I don't want to link anything? :]
Then you can't rely on sync :)
We need Facebook permissions for birthdays & events and only use the ones we ask. Let us know if you have other questions.
I enjoy using the iOS version, but I find that the web version is very slow. Anyone else having the same experience?
We're continuously working on better performances, this is one of our priorities. Thanks for your feedback and patience Adam.
I've been using Sunrise since the beginning. Love it. But I don't think I'll use the calendar much on desktop, since it's a web app.
Glad to hear Daniël, we have plans for a more native app.
It's nice and all, but I don't see why I would use it over my Google Calendar.
What motivates active users to use this exclusively? Now that they have an android app I'm giving it another shot after I stopped receiving their daily emails.
For me, it's the little details that makes this more useful.
The daily view in the mobile app is much clearer to me, and provides useful things like weather summaries inline with events (temp in morning, eve, night).
The desktop one handles birthdays in a much neater way than Google Cal,and bubbles up things like avatars and 'event type' icons.
The various integrations allow you to show things like your Foursquare / Swarm check-ins, to document your week - which I think is interesting; the main thing I loved about Moves app was being able to keep a nice visual log of my travels like this
Thanks Ronan for the kind words and glad to hear the apps are working well for you!
Let us know how it goes Patrick. Would love to hear your thoughts after using the Android and/or web app.
You can combine all your calendars (iCloud, Google, etc) into one view, and it's gorgeous. The team at Sunrise is incredibly open to feature suggestions, and they churn out fresh betas for testers at a steady but not overwhelming pace.
Thank you so much Charlie for the kind words and support! More to come soon :-)
Currently having a terrible first-time experience with this.
So I click "Connect with Email". I put in my email, I click next. It asks to put in a password. I'm assuming it's to create a password. I put one in, says "Incorrect password." WTF?
Try again. Nada. I go to my email thinking that they emailed my password to me or something. There's an email from Sunrise. It's marketing related. About the new release. Yeah I get that. I'm trying to use it.
I go back to the browser tab with Sunrise. I'm back to the landing page for some reason. I click "Connect with Email". Nothing happens. WTF?!?!?
Then I notice that my facebook photo in the "look who else is using Sunrise". Apparently, when Sunrise first launched years ago, I signed up and forgot about it.
If it knows that I'm using it...why doesn't it let me in?
All the work the designers did to make this thing "beautiful" amounts to little if I'm this pissed off before I even get into the thing.
Sorry to hear you had a bad first experience using Sunrise Mitch. Please let me know how we can correct this.
Yeah this is just so much better than either Desktop or Phone calendar app that apple provides.
Thank you Chris, glad to have you onboard.
Been using their iOS app for awhile, it's great.
Ditched Apple's app, and Any.O's app Cal
We have more coming soon Ronan, thanks for your support!
