This post is from 2010 and the quality of articles and (especially) comments on HN are no longer high enough to be able to simply filter them by score. The only effective tool is to not read HN at all, or use something like thenews.im to be able to quickly cleanse your mind with quality DN posts.
I find popularity to be a terrible metric for deciding to read something. There's a lot of popular stories on HN that I have zero interest in, and a lot of unopular ones that are right up my alley.
Plus, by shifting stories to Twitter, now I'd have hundreds of tweets to wade through, and actively avoiding Twitter is one of the best productivity boosters I have.
