Resources for web designers who want know more about servers?

almost 9 years ago from , stevenreynolds.me

I am the only web designer/developer at my company, which means that I am the go-to guy for anything web-related. This includes DNS & server issues. While I've learned a lot (mostly from frantic googling, stackoverflowing, and documentation scrounging), I still realize that this is an area in which I should be more knowledgeable. I'm tired of feeling lost at sea.

What resources have given you conceptual and practical knowledge of servers as they relate to your work as a web designer? Hopefully these would be online resources that I can access.

Thanks!

If you're looking for specific help for your paticular setup let us know what you're running on your severs and what stack you've got as well as what exactly you're after more information on (apache for exanple).

If you're just looking to improving your system knowledge, I'd highly recommend getting yourself some system administration books or subscribing to some magazines, there are many out there (magazines probably depending where you live) and lots of valuable free resources online to.

There are lots of different ways to do the same thing most of the time I've found out with this stuff, so it's a case of lots of reading and coming to the best solution, which by the sounds of it you're already doing by using stack overflow and that :-)
