Show DN: My portfolio. Critique? (sunshined.net)

I love the colors and theme - it feels so fresh and alive.
One thing I would do is give things more spacing - for example, between projects on your portfolio page, the vertical spacing between them is so small. Maybe a bit more there to keep them separate? Even a very light horizontal line or something? It just feels like they run together.
Other than that, it's super pretty.
Thanks! I'll try adding a light border to the portfolio items. I added more spacing, but your point still rings true.
Nice, overall I like it. Feels fresh, sunny and fruity! :)
I've a couple of questions/comments:
I added a carousel to show my photography chops (as part of the grander scheme of making the portfolio very personal) but I can see how it'd be confusing and I'll most likely get rid of it soon. The phone is actually a tablet, but I may replace it with a phone. Thank you. :) I'm taking your suggestions on spacing and contract.
Hi DN! I am constantly seeking out critique for my work, and this is the #1 place I would appreciate feedback most from. (Though I am nervous asking since you all are so cool.) Please check it out and let me know what you think, what I could improve, anything.
I think it feels friendly and will appeal to a specific audience. It's clean and attractive and it clearly passes your personality to prospective clients. Good job.
As noted, I think the carousel is the weakest part. Doesn't quite fit. If you want to show off your photography chops, maybe print, frame, and photograph some of your work.
Also, a personal photo as the largest element on the page is an interesting choice. You want people to get to know you of course, but they need to get to know your work as well. Maybe consider featuring as the largest item your work.
I like the colors and the vibe. Thanks for sharing!
Nice clean & simple site! Nice colour scheme and good feel all round.
I agree with everyone else that more vertical spacing is needed. By simply adding .row { padding: 50px 0; } it will do your site alot of good.
Its also good to see others using Zurb Foundation.. For your next site you should try use the sass mixins instead of the presentational classes. It will clean up your html code a good bit and make it more semantic.
This is my first post here btw :) so hey!
Hiya Christopher! I actually just finished reading Sass for Web Designers so yes, I will probably be using some mixins in the next iteration. I added more spacing (as heavily suggested). Thank you so much for your feedback.
Really Nice work on the whole! I think the spacing needs considering a little more. The spacing you have used in the header is great, then it seems a little squashed further down where you have the images and portfolio etc.
It shows personality.. I like. very fresh.
Nice style! But before I could give you any useful critique I would like to ask you: who is the site aimed at? What's its objective?
In case that your answers are "potential clients" and "to get more work", I would say that the copy should focus a little less on you, and more about what you can do for them.
Other than that good work!
I love the summer feel and the colors.
Is there any way to make this one long-scrolling page?
Great design and nice job on the mobile-responsiveness.
I'll echo a lot of the same thoughts has everyone else. Great energy. Lovely color palette. Very warm and inviting feel to it. You might want to consider some more padding between content sections and copy/images to better readability.
Great job!
The one thing I really like about this site is that it FEELS personal... like it represents your personality to a "T".
I agree with other posters that the spacing needs work in the content-heavy sections.
The first thing I'm wavering on is that the site is almost bordering on being too much about YOU...and less about the work. Part of me would be tempted to see a version of the site without your bio/photo on the front page at all... so it's just about what you do. You have a complete section about yourself on the site already, so it feels weird dedicating space in both places. Something to think about anyways.
I'd also consider showing more than one screen per project. Even a simple carousel of a couple interior pages would be nice. I love the click to a live site, but keep in mind you are directing people away form your portfolio... and then back again. This way, you can scan each project... and THEN click deeper to the live site if you wish.
Good luck.
Diana,
I love the nice+bright+fun colors. It's refreshing! I feel that the photo of you looks more like a "meet one of our designers" instead of "this is me!"
It's nice overall, but it's kind of blunt. It could do with some more whitespace or smaller type and images. Also: all of the above.
It looks great Diana! Very bright and friendly. I especially love how you called out specific success metrics on your recent projects. Lovely work!
It looks really nice Diana. You've done an awesome job on it.
