I used it simply as the data layer for reeder app. Just waiting to see where I have to move the subscriptions to keep reeder working as it's great. Anyone know of a service that works now that's best alternative?
Where is everyone taking their stuff?
Feedly looks like a pretty nice alternative
I was using Feedly, so I have nothing to do, beside maybe paying them if they announce a premium tier.
Most of these alternatives focus on social and photos and while Feedly is great for that, I just want something minimal and basic. Google Reader was much faster than the rest for that.
Bummer. Hopefully we don't read the headline "RIP GMail" in a few years. I guess we can't expect too much from products we don't pay for.
At least Reeder for iOS and Mac will continue to work independently of Google Reader. So I think this is good news.
I'd rather store my data in a paid service instead of a company that makes money off ads based on information collected from my browsing data.

I’ve been using Shaun Inman’s Fever for a while. It’s a decent alternative (though you have to host it yourself). Unfortunately there aren’t any nice Mac/Windows clients for it yet, so reading is all done in the browser. Hopefully this news from Google will spur the design and development communities into building something great!
(P.S. if that means you, then you’re going to need this: http://feedafever.com/api)
