Do you prefer DN's "Upvote" link to the up/down arrow icons on other websites?

I'm hoping to determine the best practice here. Reddit, Quora, and Hacker News use the arrow icons, whereas websites like Designer News, Facebook, and Twitter use a word (and sometimes an icon).

Thanks for your insight!

I think the Upvote really works. There's no worrying about what impact our action will have, no overthinking it. If you want to upvote it, just click upvote... Simples.

I think where there is an use for downvote, they prefer using icons. If its just gonna be a positive remarks like upvote, likes then its better to put it as text.

Also if its just gonna be an upvote, the icon might look weird pointing upward.

I prefer a graphic of some kind more than the text-link. Upvoting is a core function, and it's not congruent to the other underlined text-links in each post: the comments and poster profile.
