Hey guys, It occurred to me that here in California, in tech offices in the silicon valley we're a lot more casual when it comes to how we dress in the office. I wanted to get a feel for possibly what you guys wear. I'm usually in a hoodie, skinnys and vans. you?
Almost same here in Germany! Hoodie, jeans, sneakers and my nerd glasses of course.
I was legitimately thinking about this exact topic today. Although to elaborate a bit more. What would a designer wear going into a job interview? A lot of interviews I've been on joke around that I'm 'too' dressed up.
Usually it's a good rule to be overdressed than under-dressed. It's not unreasonable to ask the recruiter how people in the office typically dress.
Also, sometimes you can glean this information from knowing the company, the brand, and exploring their website.
i go in with a button down, slacks and a tie, i'd rather be over dressed than too casual :)
I'm in NYC, working with clients in financial services.
Going to a client:
- Dress shoes
- Matching belt
- Dress pants
- Dress shirt
- No tie
Working from the office:
- Button-down casual shirt (usually checkered or something)
- Dark jeans
- Casual shoes
I prefer to dress casual, I feel more productive when I can actually move more. Interestingly, a lot of clients are dressing more casual. I'm seeing more jeans being worn in their offices.
awesome, i've been told ya new yorkers like to look fancy, nice to know you're a little casual ;)
I try to keep it casual as much as possible, for sure. What about you? What's the dress code like over at Elance?
it really varies, most of our ENG team dresses really casual, but other depts. like sales, marketing and finance tend to dress up with button downs, jeans and nice shoes, females are the same with casual dress and professional dress. Our CEO likes to dress a little on the relaxed side half the week :)
