This is so great. Lots of similar posts are super condescending & moan about us being entitled millenials etc; really glad this stayed positive & inspiring.
I love this quote:
If you haven’t already, sometime in your career you’ll meet an awkward sonofabitch who wants to know why every pixel is where you put it. You should be able to articulate an answer for that person—yes, for every pixel.
This is very true. The more "senior" you get as a designer, the less time you'll actually spend designing. You'll spend more time talking to people/stakeholders and convincing them of the importance of good design.
Wonderful post for a Thursday (though technically a Friday amirite?). Uplifting, nostalgic and good humoured.
though technically a Friday amirite?
Sadly, you are not right :(
Feel like this hit the nail on the head, having gone through and still going through some of this. Will be interesting to stand on his side of things in a few years and look back.
I really like this. I'd consider myself a junior designer (tho my position says better), but I might as well be. I often push myself, trying to learn new programs, techniques to the point that my average sleep is 4-5.5 hours a night, but like this letter basically says, I need to stop every so often and smell the flowers. Also to not let myself burn out.
I'm learning a lot of the time that my inspiration doesn't come from dribbble, behance, designspiration, etc, it tends to come when I'm doing the opposite, playing a sport, hanging out, playing music. I need to get in touch with myself and everything around me and not lock my eyes on the screen 24/7.
Thank you for the reminder :)
Really nice artice.
