Hi all,
I'm working on a large e-commerce platform and I'm looking for some good inspiration. Does anyone here know any large e-commerce sites that are beautifully designed?
This is one of the best ecommerce sites I saw in recent years.

Tom Ford recently launched a beautiful design IMO.
What is impressive is that appears to be fully responsive across viewports. Another thing, there are images as large as 3000 x 3000 pixels being served on desktop yet it loads pretty fast.
I also love the restrained use of typography, use of white space and attention to product. The photography is on brand and the entire site is easy to navigate and use. The only blocker is that shoes here can cost +$2000.

I think Ayr is the first well-executed responsive e-com experience. Other sites mentioned here (like the new Tom Ford, for example) are heavy-handed and overwhelming. Indochino does a pretty good job with responsive, but I just don't care for the look of it.
My day job is firmly planted in this space, and I'm working hard on a complete overhaul of our site right now. Ayr (and, to an extent, Harry's) has been the only really useful comp for me so far.
If you have a straightforward checkout experience (ie: no custom, etc.), there's an exciting amount of flexibility. But the more asks you have, the harder it is to build something gracefully responsive (which is why sites like Amazon aren't so pretty—they're pure performance).
Hey Will - thanks for the kind words! I always aimed for the site to be very simple, but everything that did exist to be well executed (although we're still ironing out bugs and polish). I think of it a lot like an art gallery in a sense, nothing should detract from the product, it exist to push the clothing to the forefront and frame it in the best way possible. Even the more playful elements (such as the color picker on product pages) are inherently functional, as well as being elegant eye candy.

Some of the final polishing was missed, and it looks a bit jumbly at some sizes - but overall I'm pretty happy with it. It's fully responsive and has some cool features e.g interactive lookbooks, shoppable editorial, clear cart etc

it might not be beautiful, but http://www.amazon.com/ is very effective.
I'm rephrasing a source I can't remember, and this might all be factually wrong, but here goes:
Amazon might well be very successful despite their website design, not because of it.
“Everybody” knows that Amazon has the biggest selection and goes to shop there, but I'm having a hard time believing that a reasonable human would understand what's going on here.
They allegedly A/B-test stuff constantly, but if they're only trying out "Ugly yellow button on cluttered page, version 1" vs "Ugly orange button on cluttered page, version 2", then the results won't really lead towards a significantly better experience.
agreed, "beautiful" ui has nothing to do with the success of an ecommerce site.
great ux doesn't have to be pretty. they have completely mastered (and pioneered) checkout, cross-sell, referral and loyalty ux. among other things
I remember the article (though not the source), which nailed it pretty great. And as far as i remember, they where pretty straight forward, in that it wasn't the UX or UI of Amazon that made it a success, more of a despite of.
