It seems like there's an experiment is being performed, it changed yesterday for me, and then changed back to normal today. And yes, I liked it without underlines too, those stone-age underlined links…
I realized it yesterday. I see that just removing underlines got rid of clutter. This seems more simple and clear to me. I'm not sure it affects usability but I liked it.
PS: My theory above is not true. Looks like Google experimentally publishes to the users. My office PC shows non-underlined version but at home I still see the previous version.
It's goes a tad further for me. Its changed in Comodo Dragon and the same in Chrome on the same machine.
I didn't particularly like it but that's just cause it was change and I didn't really want to acclimate whilst searching for something I needed that second.
Maybe I'll change my mind when it rolls out further.
Yeah, seems like Google's doing the usual A/B (probably C/D/E/... too) testing on their results pages.
