Hey Joey, nice place! Great bulbs. Mine looks like this when I keep it organized:
Whoa, your art is awesome. You are winning.
Thanks man :)
The exposed brick wall in your office is gorgeous.
Oooooh right above east river park? I'll have to swing by sometime.
yes! on Kent ave
yes, right on kent ave!
This is my desk! I love the bright light from facing a window, but the (typically San Franciscan) light well means there's never direct sun in my eyes.
We built the desk ourselves, because we wanted a large L-shaped one that could sit both me and my partner, and everything we liked was far too expensive. It took about 2 weeks of sanding, cutting, drilling, and staining/painting, but I'm really happy with the end result, and it only cost us about $100 total.
Here's a crappy photo of the whole room :/ Not sure why I don't have a better one on hand.
My desk at Facebook is pretty standard fare, although my boyfriend built me a custom screen stand, because I couldn't stand the default plastic thing.
Your desk at home is amazing. I can't believe you use a trackpad instead of a mouse. That blows my mind.
This is exactly what I created Makers Vault for (sorry for the selfie). Still a work in progress, but I've always been fascinated by the workspaces that people sit in to get their stuff done.
Currently mine is just me, my bed or couch, and a laptop. Definitely need to change things up.
Sweet! Thanks for creating Makers Vault, Paul!
I dig beautiful workspaces. ( I have a folder full of images of just workspaces :L )
Hey Paul, just a thought I had on your website. When I landed on it, it was so text heavy that I just wanted to bounce. You should make browsing other's workspaces the primary experience when you land. Get people sucked in that way– because nobody is going to sign up for it until they know what it is anyways. If it was set up for an infinite scroll, the experience would suck people in first.
It's a work in progress. I'm still adding to the wall and getting the room right. This is a closeup shot of my desk.
Some fun details:
I actually made the desk myself using barn wood from my wife's family dairy farm.
That handsome companion you see there on the desk? Well his name is "The Governor" (said with english accent) and you treat him with respect.
You can order those pendant lights and bulbs online for dirt cheap and they look fantastic. Check them out at: http://canopy.co/products/4767
I also shared it on dribbble. Not quite what dribbble is for but whatever. http://drbl.in/kmFY
Really digging those pendant lights, cool space Joey
Thanks, Matt :)
Do those bulbs provide sufficient light? They look cool but do they perform well?
I have them on a dimmer so in the photo I brought them down a bit so that they didn't screw up the shot. At night I'll work with just those bulbs on and I find them perfect.
Keep in mind, I kind my room a little bit dim so I may be more tolerant that most.
I don't think those specific squirrel bulbs are ideal for lighting a desk as they're more decorative and likely to be seen in trendy restuarants.
If you are interested though, I think NUD have some of the best bulbs and pendants on the market.
A word of warning their website isn't that great.
Wear can I buy that print?
Even better– you can customize your own.
Not quite what dribbble is for but whatever.
Fuck the police.
Whoa, I didn't know you could embed images like this. Now I know for next time.
Unrelated: Are you looking to purchase a cookie monster costume? Because it looks an awful lot like you're looking to purchase a cookie monster costume.
Do you work at a desk for rent place? If not, where are you?
Looks like Mirrorville to me.
Holy shit, that's awesome. I'm digging the couch too, I have a similar setup to that. Funny I turned around and also have the sleeping dog as well :)
Those arms on the chair are looking a little worn out ryan...
Had this chair since college. Still works and it's super comfortable!
The poster is a bit cliché, but everything else is great! Currently, my work space is... the living room sofa with an Ikea notebook support .
really cool. digging the lights a lot. handmade desk ftw.
general question to all of DN: how the hell do you use apple's keyboard/magic mouse and not be completely crippled by the end of the day?
Thanks, Jim. They're dirty cheap (see Amazon link).
I love the keyboard/mouse but the battery life is a little frustrating.
Imgur This is our jungle office in Goa, India!
Here is my current setup:
Yours looks awesome too! Love the lights. Quick question, why aren't you using your displays power source? Don't have the proper adapter?
I have an older cinema display and a brand new macbook pro. The power plugs don't match. I have an order in for a magsafe adapter.
Ah. Good call.
My desk was actually the subject of a company tweet this morning before I got in: https://twitter.com/InsuranceZebra/status/438705328960446465/photo/1
Although your setup makes mine look like a shithole, I quite enjoy my loft, haha.
Dude, that loft looks awesome. Just needs a little love!
Here's a shot from my seat: https://cloudup.com/ckux8I7tBnO
Hah! I thought the bobble head on your desk was somebody from the desk in front of you photobombing.
Since I moved out of the country last June, I've been working with a semi-temporary setup, with an absolutely terrible chair (not pictured): http://mattsoria.com/images/matt-soria_desk_2013-14.jpg
Dat lock screen tho'. What is that?!
Awesome!! Thanks :)
iOS 7 Screen Saver for OS X. I use it too. http://bodysoulspirit.weebly.com/ios-7-screensaver-for-mac-os-x-by-bodysoulspirit.html
I dig that pendant light hanging in the background.
Haha, yeah. My elderly landlord made it!
I spy three years. http://goo.gl/GSdzzW
Hah! Glad you noticed -- And proud of it, Thani :)
Well I like mine. http://cl.ly/image/0U2R2I0s1W2v
Dude, that looks awesome. Is that an old factory renovated for office space?
Oh thanks, I wish it were an old factory, but it's a little too close to downtown (Chicago) for that. It's just a loft style office building. At least there's a dope Thai restaurant on the ground floor.
This is our current workspace. The room beyond the studio is a screenprinting/gallery space that we share.
Edit: and here's a really shitty picture of our clutter. Which is closer to reality.
We tidied up a little bit and moved all our boards to the back room... for now. :)
When I saw the first image, my first thought was "Those desks should be symmetrical." Wasn't going to comment on it, though. The second photo makes me feel much better.
Haha. My partner turned it sideways so he could turn and work on his bike in the downtime between projects (the Ducati Monster you see in the first picture). The bike doesn't need any more work, but he hasn't moved his desk back.
Doesn't bother us as much as it bothers you, I guess! Maybe we'll just call it the Wabi-sabi to your Feng shui. :)
Great colors, hardware, and usage of space, but I'd recommend a better lighting since the wall paint is dark.
One more thing, I hate that poster.
Hah, it's a little overplayed but it means a lot to me. I questioned if I should put up something else. I have a nice signed poster by Aaron Draplin I'm considering switching it with.
Love the desk. Did you buy from somewhere, or did you make it yourself?
EDIT: I spoke too soon — saw it was handmade.
Mine's wayyyy more of a mess.
This is my workspace at home. Still need a laptop stand and a mouse pad: http://instagram.com/p/i4MR2Rp5wA/
Took this a few months ago, it's got the addition of my Mac Book Pro since I've taken which I plonked somewhere in the middle... http://instagram.com/p/fR-OWakR9l/
mine mine mine
I'm not sure how you get any work done with that guy standing there.
Hahah lazy to tidy up the place to get a new photo :)
This is an older picture I'll have to post a newer one. I moved back to one monitor and using a convertible standing desk thingy.
Very nice! Love seeing all of these magnificent workspaces.
What's the lil box near the bottle of water? Presume it's a radio / music player but looks like a bit of vintage audio equipment
Ah, handsome! Thanks for linking
A little late to the party, but thought mine might be a little unique. Christmas lights at night, and mattresses on the floor.
