First I thought it was nice, but plain. Then I saw the original, interesting spacing, the interesting but unobtrusive details, and how easy it was to read and take in, and I realised it was outstanding.
I was really inspired by my traditional roots in print design. Thanks, Nicola.
The don't squish me stuff is kind of...weird. I resized because I had my browser thin from working before getting distracted by DN and going to the link. I fixed the size, and got a screen full of poop.
I'm pretty sure we'd pass this portfolio by completely because of the resizing ploy. Cute but kinda a cop-out.
It is annoying.
Completely original and refreshing design.
Much information design. Such beauts.
Really clean design, especially the mobile viewport. But I'm not a fan of these "don't squish me" overlays going around. No harm, no foul right? I don't get why you'd cheapen such great designs with such an unnecessary thing.
He's the author of the "don't squish me" plugin. I don't think it cheapens it at all to be little lighthearted.
Thanks for the comments, Adam. I think with a layout like this, and with as much copy I wrote—it starts to get a little to serious. I think it’s easy for us to fall in love with what we’re saying, and to take things a little too seriously. It’s just design, after all.
This was my attempt to keep things light hearted, as Alec mentioned above.
Wasn't a knock. Keep on keepin' on.
Love the tldr on the about page. Lot's of great details here, it's nice to see so much thought going into this.
