A 15 second video about what they do/how to use this could have been cool. I like the new owl. The old one looked like a Mardi Gras mask mixed with a Furby... on second thought maybe that is better.
Beautiful design and nice illustrations. I disagree with Pasquale: it got personnality: friendly and playful.
But I see one problem: it looks a little childish and targeted to children or young teenagers. Landing on it, I don't feel it's a service. for me.
Actually, despite what it may seem, it is a very good service, not really limited to children. There certainly isn't anything on the website that specifically targets children and young adults, apart from the graphics.
What it offers the user is a free service that teaches you languages very efficiently and the user in return, voluntarily, translate websites, articles, blog posts, Wikipedia pages and so on. I agree that there is no reason for them to make it look like this, because it might send a different message than what they want and lose potential users.
Yes, I know that it's a service targeted to adults too, just saying that it's maybe over cute and it can make a lot of new visitors thinking this is not a service for adults
Nice interaction on sign up with email, but it's more interesting than the homepage.
That owl lacks logical volume. The shading & form doesn't make any sense.
Also, the site seems to be void of any personality. Looks like a pretty classic, generic website. Great job.

I'm not saying this website is mind blowing and innovative, but it seems to have some personality at least. I can think of a million websites that are far more generic.
It also fits the style of the actual app design very well.
