That's a really well-executed page design. Although it makes me wonder: why would you as a company spend your design resources making this big of a promo for your player?
I think the major difference between YouTube/Dailymotion/etc. and Vimeo is the player. It promotes the content, and they want to advertise that.
I don't think the resources they used to create this page are high, it's more like an investment to make people making creative videos switch to Vimeo, and their player.
As I mentioned to Marc in his reply: if it really is this important, why isn't it linked to from https://vimeo.com? (As far as I can tell)
That's a good question. Maybe there will be a redesign of vimeo.com?
If you’re paying to use Vimeo to embed video to your site, the player is Vimeo. I think they’re right to invest so much effort creating a good player, and a lot of effort promoting it.
If this is important to Vimeo, where is the link to this page from https://vimeo.com?
"Tip Jar enables Vimeo Plus and PRO members to receive small cash payments from people who dig their videos."
This feature already exists: https://vimeo.com/creatorservices/tipjar
I think the mention of it in this article is just to point out that they're updating it and bringing into a more prominent role.
Beautiful Animations, such attention to detail.
Looks great, love the colors.
What I didn't like: can't use the space bar to scroll down & started playing music automatically
I had NO idea you could even do that!
