Ask DN: Using non-photorealistic devices on app sites

What are your thoughts on this? I'm talking about not using the usual iPhone or iPad pic, which I think in some cases steals away the attention from the app or its design — some cases I think, intentionally to disguise a not-so-nice UI design.

    I love it when they're used appropriately. In our case (on layervault.com/tour) it's used to show the Duplo version of a Lego interface. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't show the actual interface, but as a way to introduce the user to concepts, I really like it.

    I think they fit really well in some cases, it depends on the over all feel of the site. Its nice to have things mixed up a bit, as opposed to the normal ones though.
