this probably bothers me a bit too much. I'm aware there's probaby no explicit DN policy against this, but ...
This looks pretty great! Keep it updated and we'll consider adding it to the Designer News footer.
Well, I don't think I can edit the post, or is there an option somewhere I'm not seeing?
Only if it was added as a comment
I'd add "Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This" to Advertising.
Sweet. I've added it.
Great collection for designers. Thanks.
This looks like a really great list, thanks! All the books i've read that I consider essential are basically on the list you've made. Now I just need to get to reading all these other ones! Thanks again!
More (also on http://s.il.ly/books ):
Good list; so much to read! Wish I had more spare time. Thanks!
Yes. Great list. Thank you
Amazing compilation, I want to suggest 3 books: Thinking, Fast and Slow - Daniel Kahneman The Power of Habits - Charles Duhigg The Design of Business - Roger Martin
I've read Thinking, fast and slow and The Power of Habits but I wouldn't immediately recommend them to a designer. The third does seem interesting.
Formatting and links for the curious:
Best book on crafting a typeface I've ever seen is Designing Type by Karen Cheng. It goes through every single letter, capital and lowercase, sans & serif, and describes how to make it and what the difficulties are. Its amazingly thorough.
I'm also a big fan of 100 Things Ever Designer Needs To Know About People. It was written by a psychologist, and discusses the way that people digest & retain information.
I'd add Simon Sinek's "Start With Why" to advertising
Thanks, I added a new marketing section below.
I haven't scanned the whole list, but Andrew Kim made a nice list some time ago: http://www.minimallyminimal.com/blog/books-01
I've added the Dieter Rams books below.
$188.00 --> User Interfaces for All - Constantine Stephanidis
A Smile in the Mind by McAlhone & Stuart - The best book about the subtle wit of graphic design. Essential reading IMO - especially for those who work on new identities.
Anyone has a list for books for HCI?
Great Collection. Thanks for sharing
I'm copying the entire list for future use.
To find this future, I'm commenting :)
