Font Rendering on Mac OS Mojave (10.14.3)

over 4 years ago from , UI Engineer. I'm a bit mean sometimes

One of the rather surprising features of Mojave for me was the fact that their font-rendering seemed to be more like what windows has. It's not like I find windows' font-rendering better, but as I design Interfaces and Experiences on the Web Plattform, it was very pleasant to me to know that a 400 font-weight looked similar for Mac Users and Windows Users. Now with the newest patch 10.14.3, this seems reversed and now everything looks extremely bold and fat to me.

It was very nice not having to mentally subtract font-weights from everything I designed, just to make sure it looked well on windows too and now I have to do this again. If I design to make it look great on my mac, it will look too thin on windows.

Am I the only one experiencing this issue? How to you design for strongly varying font-rendering experiences?
