Color is a different business run by a serial entrepreneur that tried to ride the trend of social photo sharing.

VSCO has a great line of "pro" products for serious photographer and they are now getting into a consumer space.

Color was never a business. I just though it's interesting that they've raised the same amount while not being that much different.

I suppose you are not aware of their VSCO Film business which charges serious photographers and photo enthusiasts real $$$ money for their LightRoom presets. I know many professional photographers swear by their presets. And from my personally experience, their presets are far superior than anything that's out there.

For VSCO to go further mainstream with their VASCO CAM (iOS / Android apps) the funding is much needed for further expansion.

IMHO, you can compare VSCO raising money with, say, Blue Bottle Coffee raised money (both have actually good brands and products). Compare VSCO with Color IMHO is just a cheap shot.

Well, you suppose wrong. OMG. VSCO rocks, I'm just saying it's kinda symbolic that they raised same amount. Howgh.

I apologize (if) I didn't get the sarcasm of your original post.

Well, Imgr raised $40 million too in April.

didn't realize they did more than VSCO Cam until just now. i'm actually confused by what they're offering. seems like a smattering of Lightroom and Photoshop camera profiles and presets?

i'm not understanding the value here.

The true value (of the investment) is in the consumer space (iOS, Android app) as VSCO Cam try to get to be more social - basically, the can be the new independent Instagram.

VSCO got folks that know photography and design, but I have a feeling they need help on cloud, scalability side of things. $40 million can get you that.
